Most Helpful Negative Review Holosun HS515CU Circle Micro Red Dot Solar Sight
Ordered Holosun HS515CU Circle Micro Red Dot Solar Sight back on 8/30/16. Came with some scratches and the Multi Reticle feature did not work. Followed the return process to exchange since it was a good value for the price. Figured it may have been damaged in transit. They exchange arrived today....

Great Optic - Not a Red Dot

by E Rocket, from NC, United States Written on July 12, 2019
I really like this optic for several reasons. 1) This is not a red dot like an RMR so if you suffer from astigmatism to the extent a red dot sight looks like a comet or a pile of scrambled eggs, you should consider this holographic sight. It produces a crisp 2 moa dot with a 65 moa circle reticle that makes target acquisition very fast. 2) I like the "shake awake" feature that puts the optic to sleep but turns it on when it senses motion. I mounted this on a home defense weapon so if I need it in the middle of the night, I only need to pull it from its resting place and the optic is on. 3) I like the auto brightness feature but it's not ideal for all situations. If you're standing in a dark area the small solar panel detects low light and dims the reticle; the opposite for a well-lit area. This means that if you're standing in a shaded or dark area and aiming into a well-lit area the reticle may not be bright enough. In conditions like this, you will need to use the manual mode to adjust the reticle brightness. 4) I like the loooooonnnnnggg battery life that comes with having a solar panel. 5) I like the kill-flash and the integral lens caps; nice "value-add" items. 6) I like the circle dot reticle. I honestly don't know when I'd only want to have just the dot or just the circle. The combination is perfect for fast target acquisition and the dot is small enough to not obscure a target out to 150 yds or so. 7) I like the lower 1/3 co-witness with iron sights.
Pros:
  • long battery life
  • multi reticle
  • Shake awake
  • great for astigmatism
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • SBR
  • ar pistol
  • CQB firearm

Great optics for the money.

by Kevin, from FL, United States Written on August 30, 2018
These optics are awesome for the money. Batteries last several years and they hold zero. The negative review claiming two units would not utilize the battery and only solar probably decided to skip over the menu and did not realize these have manual mode and auto mode. The auto mode is very dim and almost not visible unless unless the solar panel is getting light. If you follow the instructions it will tell you how to put it in manual mode to put brightness as high as you need it.
Pros:
  • Works great
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • anything

Push buttons not functioning

by Prebancali, from CA, United States Written on March 22, 2018
The unit I purchased did not function out of the box. Could not switch the reticle, perform manual shutoff or change brightness. Basically it only worked because it automatically powers on in light. Sent back

Disillusioned customer

by Vet67, from UT, United States Written on March 22, 2018
Based upon favorable reviews of this optic and the desire to mount a red dot on an AK, I purchased it from OP in January 2018. Received it in short order and it wouldn't work as advertised. It operated using the solar panel, but the battery wouldn't connect (apparently). Would only display the circle dot and the light intensity was not adjustable. Contacted OP and sent it back for a replacement, which arrived about two weeks later. The replacement had the same issues. So much for that optic!
Pros:
  • OP was very cooperative
Cons:
  • This product was a complete failure!
Best Used for:
  • Example of what not to buy

Fast delivery, no hassle setup

by JOFL, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on February 7, 2018
This micro sight came fast even with regular delivery. Mounting, setup and sighting in went quick. The 2 MOA dot is a mostly reasonable compromise from the normally 4 MOA on most of the inexpensive optics. Went through just over 200 rounds in sighting, slow fire, rapid fire and no hiccups. Slow fire afterwards showed no shift in point of aim. Good item for the right budget priced individual.
Pros:
  • Easy to set up, holds zero, small
Cons:
  • 2 MOA dot - but it is budget priced
Best Used for:
  • Pistol and AR platforms

Terrible QA

by GDP, from NC, United States Written on January 24, 2018
Received with the unit not taking internal battery power. Only though the solar cell. Double checked with a different battery same result. No big surprise coming from China, they have TERRIBLE quality assurance. Will be wasting my time to get a replacement, and if that one is a dud too DO NOT BUY. Even then I would be VERY hesitant to put an optic with such terrible quality assurance on a rifle I might need to trust my life with. Also none too happy with the extremely slow shipping optics planet uses, though its free so theres that.

Great Reddot

by ShtBrd, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on October 29, 2017
All around awesome sight. Glass is nice with minimal visible tint, dot is as crisp as top tier sights that cost more, lense caps are solid, and turrets are easy to zero in. Solar power works as advertised. You would be hard pressed to find better quality & value for your money than with Holosun.

OpticsPlanet and Holosun

by Ward Moyer, Verified Owner from PA, United States Written on September 14, 2017
I did a lotta research on red dots for my AR15 build. I'm in the process of the build now but after all of the research I picked Holosun. I have faith that my research will justify my pick. But I also wish to talk about Optics Planet. During my research I still had a number of questions that I need answered before I made my pick. I spoke to several retailers including Optics Planet. They were definitely the most helpful and they went above and beyond what they needed to to get my questions answered. They spoke to Holosun and all my questions were answered. I stated that I wouldn't be purchasing it today but I would wait for it to go on sale. Being a good sales representative he said what can I do to make you happy to purchase it today. He gave me such a good sales price that I could not refuse it and I purchased it immediately. I can't wait to finish my build.
