Do not buy for your Ruger 556. The lower forward hand guard does NOT fit over the gas block. If you attempt to modify, you will void your warranty. Do not buy. I confirmed with UTG if does not fit. Save your money.
Cons:
- Does NOT fit over gas block

I bought this for my older Ruger.556. It was an easy install; however, I did have to take a Dremel tool and file to increase the slot on the front bottom handguard opening around where the bayonet lug is located. There are a lot of screws included with this handguard and I did mess up the initial install by using the longer screws (not the shorter and larger diameter screws) to fasten the handguard together. The included MLok picatinny rails are also a great addition to the packaging. Overall, the handguard improves the size of grip surface, and the surface is smooth. Since this is handguard aluminum compared to the original polymer handguards, it does add a little weight to the front of the rifle, however it seems to be a little more balanced.

Very easy installation, took maybe 10 minutes. My AR does not have a fixed front A2 sight post therefor there is a small opening in the hand guard underneath the hand guard where the sling mount would normally be, however you can mount a section of pic rail over the opening if you want. Over all I like the look, feel and durability of the UTG guard so far. Too bad there's not a UTG like this for non A2 post carbines.
Pros:
- Price, ease of install, accessories mounting options, allows multiple support hand placement locations.
Cons:
- Opening on bottom of guard, not quite as finished as one piece full length hand guard.
Best Used for:
- Carbine length AR with fixed front sight post (but definitely fits AR without post.

This is a very unique looking rail and I can appreciate that but I do wish I had went with the mlok version instead. Utg does send you a few 1913 rail sections that screw into this handguard but they are proprietary and the mounting screws are very tiny. If I had gone with the other version I'd have a lot more robust mounting options. I also had some trouble getting this handguard installed over my bayonet lug. This is not a handguard that you would want to install and remove multiple times due to the tiny screws it comes with. Find the gun you want to put it on, use loctite or Vibratite and leave it
Pros:
- Unique design
- Heat dissipation
- extending grip beyond site post
Cons:
- Proprietary rail sections
- very small mounting screws

This is the only hand guard I would recommend to fit on a AR15 with fixed front sight! You remove the plastic hand guard and 20 minutes later perfection! Don’t forget to use blue lock tight on your screws! If you want a rail so you can attach accessories this is it. It can be removed so you can put it back to the original look without damage this is it! Highly recommended!

The metal is nice and a good paint job. But I can't get it to fit. Ther were no instructions on or in the box. Anyone else have the Ruger 586? I have a fixed site on the barrel which seems to be an issue on fitment. Does anyone have the instructions and knowledge to install on my rifle?
Cons:
- Won't fit on my Ruger AR586

Got this for my Ruger 556, perfect fit (NO MODIFICATIONS WHAT SO EVER) and it looks great! Everything pieces together just like it should. Feels great in my hands and can't wait to get everything attached and ready. I haven't shot with it yet but I do not anticipate any issues. This is the drop in hand guard you have been looking for!
Pros:
- Fit
- EASY INSTALL
- Comfort
- Looks

I ordered this product because I wanted a simple, affordable way to get more rail space on my duty rifle. I prefer to hold closer to the barrel when I shoot, and on my previous setup, the rail ended before the front sight post. I looked at free floating the barrel and all that it would require and decided against it. I did not want to have to remove the sight post and install flip up sights, nor did I wish to mess with my barrel and gas tube. I purchased this and it arrived in 2 days. It took longer for me to get my old Magpul MOE handguards off than it did to install this new one. It looks great, feels great, and allows for me to shoot how I like. I will say tho, make sure to use Blue Loctite on the screws as a few of them came loose after a hundred rounds. After the loctite I have been nothing but happy with this product
Pros:
- Lightweight
- mount accessories
- Price and install ease
- look & feel
Best Used for:
- Everyday use and Range days

I bought this handguard about a year ago and mounted a large 12" leg length leapers bipod on the bottom of the handguard to an attached picatinny rail and then locktited the screws in and they held for about a year. I only used my rifle about 10 or 12 times for shooting from a table top at the range so the handguard was not beat around or mistreated. The screws that mount the extra picatinny rails that come with the handguard are not strong enough to hold my bipod. The front screw on the attached picatinny rail completely pulled out of the handguard.
I ordered another handguard like this one but decided on the m-lok version as m-lok is a much stronger mounting system. I do like this handguard but I don't think the screws in this version are enough for a bipod. I did not call leapers as I don't want another handguard that is like this one to replace it as it would fail again. Just an expensive lesson. I can still use it on another rifle without a bipod.
Pros:
- nice look
- easy installation
Cons:
- attachment screws are not strong enough for large bipods
