Most Helpful Positive Review Montana hunter
I am generally very happy with this scope. I have it mounted on a Kimber Model 8400 Montana in .300 WSM and the scope fits the rifle perfectly. My only complaint with the scope is that the power adjustment ring is very stiff and hard to turn. Pros: Light weight, small size, quality optics Cons: St...

Most Helpful Negative Review lightweight great but blurry edges
I bought this scope because it is for my lightweight gun and it fits that need. However, I want to warn everyone if you are hoping for a crisp edge to edge image you are not going to get it with this scope. The edges are particularly bad at low power. I don't know if this is an aspect of the opti...

Quality Rimfire Scope

by ichiban11, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on March 19, 2018
I was lucky enough to purchase this discontinued Leopold rimfire scope. It has an adjustable objective lens for parallax correction down to 10 yards. The image is sharp and clear, especially at 9X magnification! This scope is at home either on the bench or in the field.
Pros:
  • Leupold Quality
  • Adjustable Objective
Cons:
  • price
  • No longer made.
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • target
  • plinking

Great scope

Perfect scope for 22. I put it on a Ruger 10/22. The 33mm objective is perfect. Bright clear optics. Fine crosshairs could not be any better for rim fire. This scope is considered the ultimate rim fire scope for years.
Pros:
  • Size
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting

Best all around scope under $600

by David Iarussi, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on January 18, 2018
This scope has the very highest reviews because it earns it. I am extremely happy with its light weight (8.9 ozs,) on a .308 Savage Accustock bolt rifle. This scope has extremely sharp outlines and color in the image, with super clarity coupled with extremely high light transmission for low light; shadows and twilight views. Has the best features you expect in a highly rated high-end scope costing close to double. Plus comes with the well backed up Leupold's lifetime warrantee.

Once I decide best load, Leupold will send custom dials to match ballistics of my load; drop, Ballistic co-efficient, etc. - for free.

Never thought it could be this good. Before you are disappointed with a $250 scope, get one of these for $130 more. You would have spent $550 the cheapo- unhappy way and still have only one scope you love. Save up a bit more and get one scope you will love for around $350. Best deal and best scope I have ever purchased, shooting for over 20 years.
Pros:
  • image, light weight, color transmission, clarity, light transmission, rugged, warrantee, mounts low to barrel
Cons:
  • adjusting dial a bit stiff but this is brand new. I want them tight and expect they will soften with use. Another con is it makes my friends jelous
  • adjusting dial slightly too tight but scope is brand new so should relax slightly with use.
Best Used for:
  • medium-long range hunting, target where weight and value are most needed while very cost-effective.

Glass is super clear but wow... the crosshairs are fine

by Tom, from MI, United States Written on January 3, 2018
I purchased this scope to go on a Browning T-Sporter. If you are not familiar, this is a lightweight .22lr rifle. This Leupold scope is very light, and the 33mm objective allows me to use lower rings for an optimal sight picture. The adjustable objective is great and it allows extremely crisp focus from 10M on. The only disappointment I have is with the reticle. The fine duplex reticle image that Optics Planet shows is not representative of the actual reticle. Before buying, be aware that the outer horizontal and vertical lines are actually about 1/2 of what is depicted on the website. On light backgrounds it is not an issue. On darker backgrounds the reticle is often hard to see.

Also, the lens cover is different and hard to use. The covers are completely molded from rubber. They look to be robust but in practice are difficult to install and remove due to their stickiness. I will look for an alternative solution.

I wish I had selected a different reticle but since I have not seen the other others in person it is impossible to say if they are any better or not.
Pros:
  • Lightweight
  • Adjustable Objective
  • great optics
  • Small footprint
Cons:
  • reticle too fine
  • scope lens cover hard to use

great little scope

by Donn406, from MT, United States Written on October 1, 2017
This is my 2nd one, compact, light and clear. I like smaller scopes as we are on horseback quite a bit and they fit in a scabbard better and are less bulk umdes your leg. I have several vx3s and i think these are comparable. Clear to the edge with Leopolds forgiving eye relief. Picks up enough light to see well past legal shooting hours. Long range duplex recital gives extra aiming points to eliminate quesswork. Nice scope.
Best Used for:
  • medium range big game and varmints

by Mike K., Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on August 29, 2017
Outstanding quality that I have come to expect from Leupold. Crystal clear glass. Using it for both hunting and target shooting. I would recommend this scope to anyone seeking a high quality scope which can be adjusted for parallax from very close range out to infinity. A perfect pairing with my CZ455 American.
Pros:
  • Easy parallax adjustment
  • Scope clarity
  • Nice duplex reticle
Cons:
  • For the price, would have been nice to have some quality lens covers included
Best Used for:
  • CZ455 American

Rim fire scope with Adjustable Objective

by Ed, from LA, United States Written on July 10, 2017
After handling several different brands of rim fire scopes, I found the VX2 3-9x33 rim fire scope to be best in class for clarity and quick parallax adjustment. It's fine duplex reticle and light weight make it ideal for small game hunting applications. I paired mine with a Browning T-Bolt 22lr and use it for hunting and plinking. I would recommend this scope to anyone seeking a high quality scope which can be adjusted for parallax from very close range out to infinity.

Great scope for .22 or Airgun

by johnv, from CA, United States Written on July 7, 2017
The Leupold 3-9 x 33 EFR CDS is a nice scope for a .22 rifle or an air gun. I use it on an older TX200 spring powered rifle. The lenses are braced for the bi-directional recoil that spring rifles have. The turrets are accurate and repeatable and zero can be reset. Mine has the CDS dial for elevation and in minute of angle markings(MOA), and a capped windage turret that is not resettable but does have a ring at the base of the adjustment dial that can be set to where the current zero is.

The glass is very clear and enables me to do shoot, no shoot determinations on birds. English sparrows and European Starlings are my target species because they compete with our native song birds, so I want to make sure I get the right critter when I make the shot. The reticle I have is the wind-plex which has MOA markings with five to a side. They are accurate with the turrets at maximum magnification (9x).

My copy has a somewhat loose ocular lens adjustment. It rotates too easily and probably needs to be adjusted by Leupold. There was a little extra glue on the objective lens parallax adjustment ring. Nothing too bad but it should be clean. This isn’t a cheap scope by any means and this stuff should be caught by quality assurance staff. I have another one of these scopes that I bought locally and have nothing to complain about.

It is a good scope and Optics Planet has good pricing on it.
Pros:
  • clear glass, accurate turrets
Cons:
  • QA could be better
Best Used for:
  • Plinking, hunting small critters
