I have looked at this scope for a few year before I decided to purchase it. With that being said I couldn't be happier than I am right now. I put this scope on a Marlin lever action to hunt with in the dense woods in NC. This Scout scope is perfect for any lever action or gun that would need to quic...

Most Helpful Negative Review Great scope, just HORRIBLE in forward SCOUT position
I have a Burris 2-7x32 Scout Scope on my M1A Scout Squad and thought I would try this Leupold Scout Scope for my Ruger Gunsite Scout. On paper, it would be PERFECT. Love the magnification range and the reticle is top notch. I was a little hesitant about the overall length and weight, but figured ...

leupold VXR1,5x33mm Scout

by marty, from TX, United States Written on March 5, 2020
This scope is ideal for varmint hunting, specially for hogs and coyotes. I love the red dot to make those shots in twilight hours. the clarity for the price is fantastic. I have owned many more expensive scopes but for this type of hunting, you can not beat this scope.
Pros:
  • great for dim light hunting
Cons:
  • used only for 100 yards or less

Everything is quality, except the manual..

by B ry, from CT, United States Written on October 10, 2019
Bought this scope because of the leupold reputation (my first one) and was disappointed when the manual was a generic manual included with probably every one of their optics. It had no specific information pertaining to the sight I bought and baisically says “if you have this feature, read this part” I bought the QRW2 leupold 30mm low rings and mounted this on my socom 16. It’s still higher than I wish it would be, but is still useable, and a cheek riser will definitely help. This scope has an eye relief/focus adjustment knob, I’m not exactly sure what it is because the manual is junk, and doesn’t say anything about this feature, but I almost returned this because the eye relief wasn’t long enough. At 1.5x this sight is perfect on this rifle but when you get to 5x it’s a bit questionable and you really gotta put your head forward into a somewhat unnatural shooting position, but it is still bareable. Using the +- knob all the way - is just enough that I’m going keep it. It is a very nice scope, just saying that for paying nearly $800 you could at least make a manual specific to the product.. For an optic meant to be mounted on a scout style rifle the eye relief should definitely be longer, when the intention is to be mounted over a foot away forward of the receiver.
Pros:
  • clear glass
  • Qulaity
Cons:
  • Manual
  • eye relief not long enough

Very excellent service. Excellent response to my enquiries. I mounted the 1.5-5x33 Leupold FireDot Scout Scope on my Ruger Scout using the SX Rail to better position the scope forward of the receiver and what a setup. The quick release medium rings enables me to pop the scope off and use the ghost ring on the SX rail. I love this setup. Thanks OpticsPlanet.

Solid scope

by Patrick, from ND, United States Written on November 6, 2018
I was very pleased with this scope. I have it mounted slightly forward and on see through rings so I can utilize the iron sights on the rifle. The eye relief is still very good despite the forward position and being mounted a little high doesn't seem to be an issue. The scope is very clear and I really like the illuminated center dot in low light situations.

Fits like a glove.

by B5280, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on April 20, 2018
I mounted this bad boy to my Marlin 1895SBL w/ XS lever rail using Leupold LRW medium rings. Just enough clearance to pass a piece of paper in between w/o touching. The scope is great. Clear FOV everything stands out. I foresee the FireDot being very usefully well in dark timber.
Pros:
  • visibility of red dot
  • clearity of view , field of range
Cons:
  • None

Nice Illuminated Reticle Scout Scope

by TeamCrooks, Verified Owner from AZ, United States Written on April 18, 2018
I've been a big fan of Leupold products since the 70's when I started using scopes. When the scout scope concept came into play, I purchased a Leupold FX-II, 2.5 x 28mm Scout scope for my Marlin 1895 Guide Gun. Simply put, I love it. Now, with another 1895, I figured I'd try the VXR 1.5 x 33mm Firedot. Same concept. A little bigger, a little heavier, forward mounted scope, easy both eyes open sighting, and now ILLUMINATION! This scope brings the Scout scope concept into the 21st century.

The intensity of the dot at the center of the crosshairs is adjustable at the bush of a button. It has an auto off feature to save battery life. My older eyes surely do appreciate the firedot. Kinda like the red dot Trijicon MRO on my AR, only with up to 5X magnification.

Check it out on Youtube, then getcha one!

Typical Leupold Quality and Firedot, Too.

by Dutch, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on February 2, 2017
Ordered and received this scope along with Warne rings even before my new Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle arrived. I had some qualms that the OEM Ruger Scout mount might be too far forward for the stated eye relief.
The Leupold eye relief is fine as long as I do not add the stock spacers. So now I have a Jeff Cooper Special!

Quality product

by ICTKC, from KS, United States Written on January 12, 2016
Haven't had it in the field yet, but the optics and electronic controls are superb! The automatic shut off on the Fire Dot is a definite plus. I have had other Red Dots that did not have this option and forgot to shut them off causing the battery to run down. This one is easily controlled for on/off as well as intensity. The down side is that it doesn't fit well on a Marlin 1895 with the picatinny rail (XS Lever Rail) as the eye relief is compromised when the high magnification is used. This is due to the ghost sight not allowing the scope to move rearward. However, the scope still works by straining yourself forward. The optional dust rings present the major issue as they won't open due to the height of the ghost sight. Nobody at Optics or Leupold can advise which QR mount, if any, works. I installed the low (everybody recommends low) but reordered the High as the Med still doesn't look like it will be tall enough. Not sure if I'm ever going to get this combo to work and still be able to use the iron sights, which is a shame.
