Most Helpful Positive Review SHV 5-20x56 MOAR Illuminated
Everything you'd expect from Nightforce and all you will ever need in a riflescope for long range hunting and shooting. One concern when purchasing was the quality of the glass and coatings. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it held up nicely against both Swarovski and Zeiss. My other con...

Most Helpful Negative Review Not Worth the Money
Researched numerous scopes and settled with Nightforce. I have a closet full of mid-grade scopes that no doubt would add up to the cost of one terrific top of the line Nightforce. My first choice was the 5.5-22X56 MOAR NXS with Zero Stop. When I saw the SHV for half the price, I thought I would g...

Nightforce SVH

Best glass for the $ hands down. Glass is super clean and is probably what I’d consider best value for a top tier scope on the market.

Excellent Quality, Great Price, Incredible Customer Service. Great glass translates into great clarity and brightness. Easy to dial in. I was zeroed in 3 shots and have been driving tacks since. Mounted on an Accuracy Ordanance 308. Clarity at 1000 yards no problem.

A conditional Recommendation

by Ultimate Volunteer, Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on July 7, 2019
Nightforce has a reputation for rugged and reliable optics. I've only used my SHV for a couple of weeks but it holds zero and tracks well. My only complaint is the reticle, the lines are so thin they seem to disappear when you lock onto your target. My advise for anyone looking into this scope would be to get the illuminated reticle, that should solve the problem. Unfortunately for me I'm stuck with a thousand $$$ dollar scope that is not up to par with my Leupold & Vortex scopes. I'm not saying this scope isn't going to work for someone else but for me if had a do over I would. Nothing against the quality of this scope, the glass and build quality all seem to be excellent, the reticle is the only issue I have with this scope. If the reticle is good for you this scope should serve you well.
Pros:
  • Good glass, quality built, reputation & service
Cons:
  • reticle

NO NEED TO SPEND MORE .

by jr, from PA, United States Written on November 20, 2018
I WAS WORRIED I WOULD BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SCOPE BECAUSE I WAS USE TO ATACR AND OTHER HIGH END SCOPES HOWEVER I COULDNT HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG.IM USING THIS ON A DEER RIFLE I HAD A SWAROVSKI 4-12-50 AND NEEDED MORE MAGNIFICATION DUE TO OLD EYES. THIS FAR SURPASSES THE ZEISS AND SWARO ALL ASPECTS. AS FAR AS USING AS A TARGET SCOPE FOR THE AVERAGE GUY THERE IS NO MORE EXPENSIVE SCOPE THIS WILL WORK FINE.
Pros:
  • Price
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • WILL DO ANYTHING

Zero stop does not work !!

by X army, from AR, United States Written on March 11, 2018
Zero stop cost me a big deer and lots of extra range time and Ammo $$ Web site has no guidance on this scope . Small screws keep backing out which causes the scope to lose zero it happen multiple times while hunting and on the range. They should recall this scope.
Pros:
  • None beside the name brand and the size of the lens.
Cons:
  • Junk
Best Used for:
  • Getting your hard earned $$

Predator hunting

by RetiredC, from KS, United States Written on March 8, 2018
Quite a nice scope with great light transmission. So far it works quite well for predator hunting at night and as I get more familiar with the moar reticle it will become easier to use. I am thinking about taking it along on my next trip to South Africa and trying it out on some hunting there.mission heaviert
Pros:
  • Great light transmission
Cons:
  • Slighty heavier scope
Best Used for:
  • Nighttime predator

Long over due.

by Big G, from LA, United States Written on December 4, 2017
The best purchase I made for hunt with a rifle. Long range shooting in clear cuts and pipelines is so much easier with a high powered scope. My first shot on a deer, I killed a nice 8 pt. at 200 yds. with my new Night force SHV 5X20X56mm. I love the scope would recommend it highly.
Pros:
  • Makes long range shots easier.
  • Very clear view and love the parralex ajustment.
  • sighting in make easy with just 2 shots
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • shooting targets

Excellent Scope

by Steven B, Verified Owner from AZ, United States Written on October 5, 2017
The NightForce SHV 5-2-x56 illuminated is an excellent 2nd focal plane choice for medium to longer range shots. At 20 power the MOAR reticle can be used as an range finder. This scope is mounted on a Bergara HMR 6.5 Creedmore and operated flawlessly at all powers and ranges out to 300 yards so far. Elevation and wind erector adjustments are accurate and return to zero. Glass is beyond clear for a scope within this price range. The 56 mm objective collects light in very bright sun and dusk/dawn conditions with no distortion. Edge to edge is clear. The illuminated reticle is center cross hair only. The illumination does wash out onto the adjoining hash marks somewhat but not a game changer. I have a NightForce NXS illuminated so don't expect that type of complete reticle illumination. I would highly recommend this scope. I have ordered and received another one these scopes except in a non-illuminated model so that should tell all!

Best Scope on the market for hunting and long range shooting

by Swanco, from TX, United States Written on August 18, 2017
Great scope used for long range shooting and hunting. I have a total of 6 of these scopes at this time. Shooting with 6.5 creedmoor, 308, 7MM STW, 338 Lapua. Also looking to add another scope to put on a Remington 700 SPS in 300 WSM. The last one I purchased was placed on a Remington 700 LRT in 223 and I am just working up the loads for it at this time.
