Most Helpful Positive Review Great Binoculars
I bought these binoculars to replace my spotting scope for hunting and spotting during target shooting. I had read numerous reviews about binoculars and Nikon AE binos kept coming up as a good buy with sharp optics. So, I bought the 16x50 and I have not been disappointed. The image through the bin...

I have had two pair of the Action Extreme 16X50. Both pair have developed problems in the first year. I was luck on the first pair, it was in the first thiry days and the store took them back. The second pair was seven months and NIKON WOULD NOT WARRANTY THEM. SO MUCH FOR A "NO FAULT REPLACEMENT...

How strong is "strong"?

by EZRA2EYES, from MA, United States Written on September 14, 2018
Here, the word "strong" connotes either both or 1 of 2 attributes. Magnification, which at 16-power is practically the max for 50mm objectives; and build, which if you choose to believe me, is both rugged and astoundingly buff, to put it into manly terms. For hunting, tripod-mounted (rain or shine), the user can get up very close to the target; astronomically, they actually rival the "big boys" of the 15-16-power, 70mm category. I understand if that's hard to believe, but check them out (as I have) side-by-side, and you'd wonder why shelving out an additional $500 or whatever was really worth it...
Pros:
  • Hunting
  • astronomy
Cons:
  • None

Tremendous optical quality.

by EZRA2EYES, from MA, United States Written on April 16, 2018
The Nikon AE 16x50 took me by surprise one near-dawn. Mounted only on a monopod I could discern the disk of Jupiter, 3 Gal moons lined up clearly and, at that particular time, Io emerging from behind at what must have been only 5" or so from the bright king of planets. That it wasn't in any way washed out by the very bright, though small, Jovian disk is a testament to the refinery of these non-ED glasses. Must be the quality of the coatings, no?

Also, they are tough as rhinos. You'll never have to give second thought about stuff like dirt or dread fungus in there. I have learned the hard way always to go for dry gas O-ring sealed bins. Without it, unless you only plan to use them indoors, the lifespan of the bin is way less. Whether one hunts, merely observes animals and other interesting objects or delves into the boundless celestial glories, you buy a faithful companion for at least 25 years if you acquire the Nikon 16x50 Action Extreme. And take it from me, they really do stand behind the warranty.
Pros:
  • great optics
  • Waterproofed Porros
Cons:
  • Maybe too much magnification for hand-holding
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • Astronomy
  • Wildlife, birding

nikon 16 power binoculars

by rtapp, from IN, United States Written on December 11, 2014
These are excellent binoculars. They are very clear and easy to use. I wish the Covers were integrated into the piece so they wouldn't get lost, but they are perfectly functional. The adjustable eye relief is nice. They seem to be a good value.

Very nice feel, great optics

by Legacy Reviewer, Written on January 24, 2011
I don't know enough about binoculars to rate these as a BEST, but they are certainly the nicest I have looked through. I really liked the feel of the AE, over the standard bino's of the same power. OP.com made the whole experience that much better with great customer service and fast response times.
Pros: Feel, eye cups, tripod adapter included

The Nikon 16x50 binoculars met all my expectations...powerful and made for extreme environments. I use them both on shore and in the boat and with the attachment for the tripod, land use is very easy. Great Nikon quality!
Pros: Powerful, durable and resistant to the elements
Cons: Large binoculars with the need for a steady hand
