Most Helpful Positive Review Long Range Pairing for .308 Rifle
I purchased this about 2 years ago to use for hog hunting. I had just gotten a Remington 700 VTR in .308 and was really looking forward to pairing the two and killing a wild boar. Unfortunately, the darned thing was backordered for about 4 months, and I had to take a different rifle. When I did f...

Most Helpful Negative Review Horrible Glass
Bought for my Tikka 308, to be used for white tail. This scope is UN-acceptable for low light conditions, the glass on medium to high settings will not transmit light. I could see deer with naked eye at 75 yards but not with this scope! Acted like cheap Chinese scope.

Great Scope for a DPMS SASS

by AlBeight, from MD, United States Written on November 1, 2017
All around great glass. Like the reticle too. For out past 200 yds I wish it had a bit more magnification, like maybe 24x. Still very good though. One drawback, and I didn’t think I’d need it or want it, but an illuminated reticle would be handier than I thought.
Pros:
  • clear optics
  • Nice reticle
Cons:
  • No illuminated reticle
Best Used for:
  • Long range shooting and hunting

Sweet well priced scope

by STAG, from TX, United States Written on August 4, 2017
This is truly an amazing scope! I mounted this on my ruger precision rifle and it worked magically. The glass is amazing and I am a big fan of SFP scopes. And to everyone who says that the whole NFC reticle is useless because it is limited to the cartridge. Not with this scope. If you download the SPOT ON app, dial it for your cartridge and bullet, and ta-dah! For the price it kicks butt compared to similarly priced vortex and other big brands! Was able to hit at 600 yards without having to dial DOPE. At 15x I could transition from 300-500-600 yards just using the reticle! Am going to put this on a savage 6.5 creedmore soon.
Pros:
  • Evering thing about it.
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Tactcal

Nikon M-308 BDC is perfect on my Aero Precision M5E1

by Aero M5E1 Owner, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on May 16, 2017
Just added the M-308 BDC to my new Aero M5E1 and I'm very happy with the results. Very clear glass and a great BDC reticle make this a perfect match for the AR-10 platform. I used the M-308 mount also from Nikon for a very solid setup. The Turrets on the M-308 are very well built and come back to zero every time. I'm sure this optic will provide many years of accurate long range shots in all environments.

Nice optics but be aware of a few things

by Greg R, Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on March 24, 2017
First of all, this review does not reflect on this scope's capability as I haven't fully range tested it. I believe that many of the previous reviews attest to the abilities of the BDC feature, which is one of the main reasons I purchased it. Reputation does mean a lot, and I do think that Nikon offers a great value for the money.

My rifle is a POF .308 with a 16.5" barrel. One of the challenges I will be faced with is trying to create a handload to match Nikon's BDC system. In order to accomplish that, I will need to really push the limits as the scope requires a 168 grains bullet having a muzzle velocity of about 2,700 fps. I may struggle to accomplish that with a short barrel. If I fail, I will have two options. #1 I can use Nikon's Spot On web site and apply the velocity I accomplish for my rifle, or #2 I can custom order an elevation turret that matches my ammo ($99). I just want the purchaser to be aware of this nuance as you ARE purchasing a scope with a fixed BDC intended for a very specific load and velocity. Most of us will not shoot this exact load. Variances in velocity due to barrel length is the reason.

The other thing is be prepared to open the box with some disappointment as well as a surprise. If you visit the Nikon website and then return to Optics Planet and blindly order using Nikon's description of what's included, you'll discover they will not match. Nikon's website indicates that the M308 mount is included. IT IS NOT! This means that you WILL have to ...

Good value

by Jack, from CA, United States Written on January 16, 2017
This scope has good glass and solid turrets. It is a second focal plane but the free Nikon Spoton app helps you use the BDC at different magnifications. Not really for extreme long range but I have used it on an AR10 out to 600 yards with no issues.

Perfect Scope for the M1A

by Michael Gervais, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on November 29, 2016
This particular scope was recommended by Turner's employee as best fitting for the M1A or M-14 rifle. Based on his suggestion and for scope mount I did pick the Nikon M-308 specifically for my rifle. I could not be happier with this scope and how durable, along with being well made. The auto reset to zero is a nice feature and for distance shoots I could not ask for anything better. Additionally, the Nikon has a ballistics app for both the I Phone and Android phone for measuring distance, caliber and targeting, have used at the range and app works great, simple to use and targeting perfect. It beats the old days of figuring elevation, wind-edge, and caliber mostly; a big help. The recommended scope mount from Optics is also another factors in the purchase of this scope; it too fits the M1A perfectly, made for each other. Low light and day light sighting perfect through this scope too!
Pros:
  • Perfect fit and finish
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Hunting at longer that 100 yards

Great Glass but...

by Timothy Mason, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on April 25, 2016
This is my first mid range optic and the quality of the glass is excellent. I would agree with other reviewers that the parallax adjust while easy to reach is a bit stiff. Also, the elevation graduations are preset for yards but that is based on a 168 gr bullet. Nikon does have a nice app that will help you adjust for using different bullet sizes but, I guess I would prefer it be in MOA just like the windage knob. Of note, that is why it gets four stars instead of five. Still this is a nice piece of glass
Pros:
  • Reticle, turret were audible and tactile
  • Clarity/Glass
Cons:
  • Adjustments are not labeled
Best Used for:
  • Targets, hunting, training
