Expert Review

Worth every penny

by Matt S., Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on November 12, 2019
I usually run Silynx Clarus Pro but wanted to try something wireless and these caught my attention.

These did not disappoint. Both the earbuds and the case are compact, high quality, durable, simple, and highly effective.

The earbuds are comfortable, hold a charge really well, and do an excellent job mitigating harmful noise without hampering your ability to hear useful, ambient noise. Excellent sound quality.

Low profile ear bud design doesn't get in the way of eye pro or affect cheek welds when shooting rifles.

The battery life of the earbuds and the case is truly impressive.

They fit nicely in the range bag without taking up serious space, no need to worry about them getting damaged, and they are always ready to go when you need them.
Most Helpful Positive Review WOW Exceeded Expectations
All I can say is WOW. I am amazed every time I put these in just how effective they are. The noise reduction of the snap and pop at the range with ability to still hear and carry a conversation clearly is nothing short of amazing. I am able to hear everything going on around me making my time on ...

Most Helpful Negative Review Appalling Backup Service
Whilst initially pleased with the product, at the 12 month point one of the earpieces started to loose charge quite a bit faster than the other. It has now reached the point 18 months after purchase that one of the earpieces has stopped charging completely. On enquiring if I could purchase a repla...

Avoid and do not waste your money

by Rimbaud, Verified Owner from GA, United States Written on January 17, 2026
I have a very lightly used set that has ceased to fully function. Company does not stand behind the product. See below. They charge a lot of money for ear pro that they know does not last. See Otto response to my query about that were bought from this site on Jan 2022: Thank you for your email.
Based on the proof of purchase the earpieces are no longer under warranty.
The warrant is 18 months from date of purchase or date code on the earpieces.
The earpieces are not repairable, unfortunately.

Below is information we received from our QA department on product life on the earpieces.

It’s very hard to provide any kind of accurate life span expectation due to the variable use cases. The biggest variable seems to be body chemistry and function – some people’s body oils/sweat/etc attack the device, including the electronics, much more than others. Some people generate copious amount of cerumen but many do not. The there is the frequency and duration of use and the effect on the battery cycle life. Environmental factors may play a part – anecdotal evidence indicates that frequent usage in hot/humid environments may decrease the life span (or this may simply relate back to the sweat factor). Rough handling can certainly decrease life span.
Based on all of those variables the life span can be expected to vary between 1 to 5 years, with little ability to predict what an individual can expect.

Otto Customer Service is great this product is not

by Hawkapocalypse, from CA, United States Written on January 7, 2026
I purchased this item for my "get home bag" so I'd have a tactical advantage with enhanced hearing and noise protection for loud noises. The first set I received I used once, enjoyed then just stored in a back pack in my vehicle. I'd take them out every 3 months and charge them, then back in the back pack. On my second use one of the earbuds would register fully charged then after a few minutes of turning on would give the low battery signal and shut off.

The product was under warranty and the team at Otto was great. The return was easy and they provided me with a new set.

The new set, again, charged up and put in the back pack. Never used. I hadn't charged them in about 9 months. I plugged them in and again, one of the ear buds wont charge. Also, the charging case now wont hold a charge. I reached out to customer service again and this set is out of warranty. My only option is to buy another earbud for $200. Considering there are other brands that I can buy for about $200 I'll pass, especially since the case won't hold a charge now.

When they worked (a handful of times) they were great. Absolutely wouldn't buy again for the money. For that price there seem to be competitors that offer much higher quality and reliability.

They aren't cheap, but how cheap is hearing loss?

by DoubleG, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on January 3, 2026
I work as an audio engineer, and my hearing is crucial to my livelihood. I've tried all sorts of active hearing protection and I have to say that these are the best, by far. I was dubious that they would give me the same kind of protection as my Peltor VIII, as I couldn't see how an in ear could offer the same kind of engineering. Boy was i wrong! These sound amazing, and at the indoor range I go to I was unphased by the guy next to me shooting 7.62 rounds unsuppressed. Even on the low setting I could hear my buddy in the next bay. On the high setting the conversation was almost natural, save for a SLIGHT tinniness to the vocalization, but I can live with that as there was no over modulation in my own voice in my ears (other companies fail in this aspect, in my less than humble opinion.) I bought these primarily for Skeet and Sporting Clays, but they are so comfortable I see using these indoors often.

The company that makes the OTTO is Etymotic. I have a set of wired in ear monitors that I use on set when working heavy noise days (NASCAR tracks, Armed Forces battle simulations, factories, etc) and have loved those, so I shouldn't be surprised how well these work.

One caveat: I have custom ear molds that I borrowed from my work set of "ears." I have not tried them except in the house with the flanged earpieces or the memory foam. The flanges are comfortable, but I have tiny ear holes so the memory foam was uncomfortable to me. I'm sure the fitted ear molds offer a bit better...

Defective Out of The Box

by M, Verified Owner from NV, United States Written on December 18, 2025
One of the earbuds emits a constant, painful and obnoxious high pitched tone. At this price point, this is a solution unacceptable QC. We will see what the manufacturer does about it, but my confidence in this $500 product couldn't be lower right now.

Unacceptable quality control.

by M, Verified Owner from NV, United States Written on December 18, 2025
Just received these today. Right out of the box, one of the units is clearly defective. It emits this constant high-pitched tone. In high mode. It is truly obnoxious and even painful. For the price of these, this is absolutely unacceptable.

Ear protection

by Lee werks, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on September 28, 2025
The ear protection is so good! Used for few Uspsa matches and weekly steel shoots. Very comfortable. Had walkers in ear before and they used to hurt after some time. These I can leave in 6+ hrs no problem. I do use the 3m peltor skull screw on them. Makes them even better.

Work great for a solid year, after that, roll of the dice...

by Mike, Verified Owner from WI, United States Written on July 9, 2025
I bought these in 2019 and it is not 2025. I have replaced them twice under warranty. The first set was DOA when I opened them up. The second set stopped amplifying sound after about 6 months. Now on my third set and one of the buds no longer amplifies.

WHEN they work, they are great and I love them. I use them to hunt, shoot, mow the lawn, operate power tools, etc. They just do not last. I have not had issues with keeping a charge like others have, my issue is they no longer pick up sound and play it.

Customer service has been great while in warranty. This will be the first time I see what they will do for me out of warranty. Very disappointed. I spent almost 1,000 getting custom silicone buds made for my ear canal to use these, as I love them when they work.

  • None
Cons:
  • do not last
