Expert Review

Excellent design

by Cal L, Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on October 9, 2019
When you open up the packaging you will be in shock by the quality of the machining on the Hypertap. There are no milling marks, no bit chatter spots, no unevenness in the finish. This is an amazing piece of American engineering executed properly by those who are passionate about their trade. I was very impressed to see that they included an installation tool with it, as many other would have left you to have to buy one separately. I will admit that I was hesitant to get this due to the cost, but lets be honest it is much more involved to make this than an A2 birdcage. Once I got to see this in person, I knew it was worth much more than what it sells for.
Most Helpful Positive Review Worth every penny
1) the machining and quality is top notch.. ya I know everyone says that about every break, I’m hard to impress and this blew me away just looking at the precise baffle cuts/ports. 2 claims 80+% recoil reduction ( I was skeptical) and it truly does! I’ve used SJC titan,M4-72 severe duty, seekins ,lantac.. and this is just in a league of its own.. This will be the new standard in breaks. 3) shoots very flat without drilling holes on top and has less flash/concussion then the other brands I mentioned. I use this on my DDM4V7 PRO and I couldn’t be happier. Very pricy but you will know why when u ...

Reduced recoil

Awesome addition to my .300 weatherby. I had the weatherby #2 brake on before this and this reduced that recoil by 40-50%. Very happy with the purchase

Made 300 Win Mag feel like .308

by Chaz, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on July 22, 2021
Before I added a muzzle brake to my Browning A-Bolt 3 in 300 Win Mag, the recoil was so bad that after 40 rounds, my shoulder was done. It's mainly due to the really lightweight AB3 rifle plus the 300 Win Mag (180gr). After installing the Hypertap, the recoil was a night and day difference. The recoil was reduced significantly. I wouldn't say it is on-par with 5.56, it's still noticeable but not bad at all. I'd say it is more like a .308 but far more manageable as I had shot 60 rounds and didn't feel a thing. I could keep going all day long.

Installation is simple but I found that with the included wrenches, it would not tight the nut/brake enough and would loosen up. It could be a characteristic of the 300 Win Mag recoil since everything on that rifle was rattled around. I had to tighten my American Defense 1piece mount levers to the point I need to use a plastic lever to pry them loose. Otherwise the entire mount would shift around on the Leupold Picatinny rail. That rail also moved a bit because the screws started to loosen. I had to use Loctite 640 (which is the green high-temp sleeve retaining compound that FN uses for the FN SCAR). Back to the brake... I contacted Precision Armaments and they recommended using a bigger adjustable wrench. I ended up finding a pair of Channelock slim-jaw adjustable wrenches and cranked it down. After 60 rd the brake wasn't loosening so it was good to go. My next last resort is to torque it down with wrenches but also use Rocksett on the ...

Very accurate

by David, from LA, United States Written on May 25, 2021
This muzzle brake is a piece of art and it really reduce the recoil with 86% I attached it to my AR 15 pistol 7 1/2 inch and I shot it with one hand there was no issues … when I attached it to my regular 16 inch AR 15 I shot it with one hand as well and almost it was your recoil I recommend this product strongly to the ones who have problems with the AR 15 recoil
Best Used for:
  • Ar15 5.56 and ar15 7.62x39

Works and Sounds as advertised!

by RR, from SC, United States Written on February 27, 2021
I installed the Hypertap on a Remington 783/16.5 inch barrel. It works as stated! Recoil reduction on the 308 was like a 223. The noise level was loud and I mean loud. I will not only wear hearing protectors but ear plugs as well. Accuracy was great, no muzzle rise at all. I was with other shooters at a outdoor range, I told them about how loud the brake was suppose to be. They were shooting short barrel AK pistols that I thought was loud, then I sent one down range, they looked at me and said you told us, but that is the loudest 308 I have ever heard. So, bottom line it tames recoil and muzzle rise, but they are also honest about the report.
Pros:
  • Low Recoil No Muzzle Rise
Cons:
  • Loud

Awesome Brake

by Tom Clair, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on February 26, 2021
You will not be disappointed with this brake. I have tried numerous brakes on the market. I wish I had found this one sooner. Recoil reduction is amazing. What really surprised me was the blast signature. I have some 308 brakes that are ridiculously loud. This one is impressive.

Does what it claims

by Jerry, Verified Owner from ID, United States Written on January 21, 2021
Very good design, though quite similar to the Lantac Dragon series this is a 45 degree instead of 90 which makes it superior recoil reduction wise. For the observers next to you though not so much. Great tuning options available for individuals to open up holes on top in accordance to their unique needs. My only gripe about this is that since this is meant to be a high performance range upgrade instead of tactical. The finish could have been a slick high polish for easier carbon cleaning later.

Reviews are spot on, good quality product

by toastx, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on November 28, 2020
I purchased two of these for an HK MR556 and MR762. Impressive stability! I will need to investigate drilling holes on the top to help with a small bit of muzzle rise with rapid fire, on the MR762. The downside with all this stability is gas blown back at the shooter.
Pros:
  • Quality
Cons:
  • price

Cheat code

by Kyle, from AL, United States Written on April 28, 2020
This brake is absolutely wicked. All the other claims that it reduces recoil to near zero are accurate. After I installed it, I shot a different AR15 with a standard birdcage flash hider for a control. I didn't think 556 recoiled much to begin with but the difference is daylight and dark. Its literally the same feeling you get using cheat codes in video games because the gun hardly moves at all. This brake has very aggressive ports and has a lot of blast, but if a brake is gonna work well its going to be loud. Would recommend a thousand percent.
Pros:
  • Near zero recoil and looks wicked.
Cons:
  • None if you like loud things.
Best Used for:
  • competition
