Much better than Gen 1, aside from abuse tests they are comparable to Aimpoint / SIG

Written on Feb 27, 2026

I have the Aimpoint T2, Duty RDS, and a bunch of SIG Romeo 4T Pro. I also had the Gen 1 of these Crossfire red dots, and the Gen 2 came out like a year after I bought my Gen 1. This was around 2018-2019. The Gen 2 changes are namely going from 7,000 hours to 50,000 hours run time, and the use of helicoil threaded inserts. The Gen 1 had threads cut directly into the aluminum body and would easily strip out.

For the Gen 2 Crossfire, settings below 5 aren't really visible in broad daylight. Setting 6 and above are visible for me. The dot looks like a solid dot without any weird refresh rate issues. On setting 11, I don't notice a huge blooming/circle around the lens. Not as bad as the T2 or Duty RDS.

The Crossfire lacks shake-awake and multiple reticles like the SIG Romeo 4T Pro but honestly the mechanical rheostat like on the T2 works fine and is better for standby battery life. I don't really use the shake awake on the 4T Pro's and just stay with the 2 MOA dot anyhow.

The Duty RDS has an issue where it drains the battery within 1-2 years just turned off. The electronics are always on standby. For some reason SIG's Romeo 4T Pro doesn't have that problem nor does EOTech with their EXPS3. Vortex's UH1 Gen 2 will drain that CR123 within 18 months just sitting on a shelf.

Overall - the Vortex warranty can't be beat and these Gen 2 Crossfires (at least the ones I have made in 2025) are really good. I can't say they are just as good as the T2 or Duty RDS or 4T Pro because those h

Perfect for S&W M&P 5.7 bore - this is more of a 22LR bore than 5.56

Written on May 18, 2024

My Geissele 5.56 alignment rod would absolutely not fit through my M&P 5.7 barrel, it was too big. So I did some research and found that the M&P 5.7 bore was more like a 22LR bore, and gave the Griffin rod a chance as it was designed for 22LR. It was just a few thousandths smaller than the Giessele 5.56 rod and fit perfectly.

It was shipped extremely well protected, so there's no chance of it getting bent during shipment.

I highly recommend it!

Well-made and durable, but lacks simple design features that would have made them even better

Written on Jan 06, 2024

I love everything about the American Classic cases... but they missed a few simple design features that they offer on some of their other products. When I suggested them to Savior, they basically told me to go pound sound.

The I have several of the American Classics and noticed they all have 2 extra D-Rings that aren't attached to anything. As you know, these all come with backpack straps and these bulky straps cannot be converted into a single shoulder straps. I've lugged several of these in my trunk and the backpack straps are bulky and get in the way. With my 55" case, if I were a shorter person the end of the case would be dragging on the ground. It would have been much better to offer a shoulder strap.

So I happened to buy their American Classic Shorty case for a SBR, and noticed it ONLY had a shoulder strap without any D-rings for a backpack strap. But the only 2 D-Rings were in the same exact location on the bigger American Classic cases. So I had to buy some aftermarket shoulder straps for the bigger Savior cases and that solved my problem.

I asked Savior about buying their individual shoulder straps and they kept telling me to buy the Shorty.... it won't work for a 26" barrel bolt gun. After much back and forth, they suggested I buy their Urban Warfare cases which are basically a streamlined American Classic, but with extra drag handles, backpack straps, AND the shoulder strap.

So in essence, I just wanted to buy those nice padded shoulder straps from the Urban W

Good but not great for the FN P90 / PS90 SBR

Written on Mar 26, 2023

This review is for the P90 / PS90 SBR sized case.

Overall this case is very good, but not great for a few reasons. The Cordura material on the outside is a dust magnet. If I rub it on something, it will show dust marks right away. The Velcro is reversed - they used the hook/hard stuff on the case itself and the flaps have the loop/soft stuff. What this means is there is a LOT of hook/hard Velcro that is exposed when the flaps are closed and they snag on everything. I ended up using loop Velcro cut to fit over those exposed areas. I contacted Elite Survival with these recommendations and they fell to deaf ears.

While the case is compact and perfectly sized for the P90/PS90 SBR, it is really only for the Ring Sights optic (HC-14-62/MC-10-80). If you have a rail or aftermarket mount with an aftermarket optic that is any bigger than the Ring Sights, it will be a tight fit. Heck, a PS90 SBR with the Ring Sights black optic/MC-10-80 barely fits with a single point sling.

The accessory pouch is very tight. I usually like to throw in the Ring Sights adjustment tool and my FN brass catcher in the accessory pouch of my other cases, but in the Elite Survival case, it barely fits and then sticks out enough that it starts turning the case white/gray from dust markings where the protrusions rub on stuff.

The P90/PS90 SBR also fits into this case in one specific way, and that's with the longest flat part of the case on the same side as the optic.

The case is well made though as the mat

Mismatched FDE anodizing, rattles around in some upper receivers

Written on Nov 10, 2022

This review is for the FDE M84 ambidextrous gasbuster charging handles with the "Original" latch (looks like a regular AR15 charging handle but on steroids).

The FDE anodizing is so bad that on 2 of the 3 that I bought, the right handle latch doesn't match the rest of the charging handle. Totally different shade of FDE. PRI blames their supplier. Whatever.

This charging handle also rattles around in my LaRue upper receivers. Like marbles in a can bad. These fit fine in my 18 year old worn-out RRA A4 uppers but rattle in brand new LaRue Ultimate/Stealth uppers. I can shake the upper assembly and can visually observe the handle slide back and forth and move up and down, rattling away.

Super easy install, no tilt as advertised

Written on Oct 08, 2022

I've never really had problems with the USGI green followers, but I had some left-over Gen 2 magpul followers and decided to buy more for the rest of my Teflon coated USGI mags. These latest Magpul followers have some slight differences in retaining the mag spring but otherwise function the same as the ones I had from about 15 years ago.

They literally don't tilt and function extremely smoothly. Are they mandatory for bench shooting? Nah.

Super easy for reticle alignment, faster than feeler gauges - only 2 caveats

Written on Sep 17, 2022

These make reticle alignment super easy and fast. However, there are 2 caveats I feel you should be aware:

The biggest one is that it all depends on if your mounting platform is machined true, and if the scope tube is machined properly with the reticle aligned properly to the scope tube. On a quality setup, this should be fine. I'm talking like Japanese glass Vortex scopes (Razor) with a quality Picatinny rail that is in-spec.

The second caveat is if your scope turret/body size to rail clearance may not allow for this leveler to work. I only ran into this in a few situations. In that situation I had to use feeler gauges.

Horrible audio quality, bad design overall

Written on Aug 02, 2021

These things are way overrated. They use the MSA Sordin gel cups but they're not the same as the MSA/Sordin gel cups! The genuine MSA/Sordin cups have these dots all around probably from the molding process and the MSA/Sordin foam inserts are very blue. These are like knock-off MSA/Sordin cups, but if you go to Safariland/TCI's website they carry replacement hygiene kits with the same MSA/Sordin part numbers!

The metal hinges clip into the plastic headband and I can see how eventually the plastic could fatigue/break, and also one of my clips wasn't bent properly so it was ready to slip right out.

The audio quality is absolutely abysmal. Voices sound muffled with the higher frequency response chopped out in mode 1 and it amplifies ambient sounds like vents/fans instead of voices! So if you're in a quiet environment with maybe a refigerator or your central air running, it will absolutely amplify the refrigerator and central air causing a loud humming in the background. Or if you're in an indoor range with a vent register nearby, it will amplify that instead of voices. In a quiet room, the Liberator's will make normal voices/sounds feel muffled and muted. It really hurts situational awareness.

It also reboots itself when you smack it on something like a wall, or a table. The first time it happened to me I was wondering what was going on. When I went to email Safariland with some questions, their server kicked back with an error message saying my Gmail email domain was blocked
