Most Helpful Positive Review 5X Prism scope from Primary Arms
I have used the 5X prism earlier generation from Primary Arms and found it to be an excellent choice for shooting out to 200 yards on an 18" AR platform. The best part is the reticle which is etched and does not starburst on you if you have any sort of astigmatism like a typical red dot is prone to do. The 5X PA comes with a complete set of cantilever mounting pieces so it can be tailored to whatever rifle you wish to mount it on. This new version is shorter than the original I purchased 5 years ago and is a big improvement in optical quality, i.e. the glass is more clear and brighter than...

Primary Arms 5x

by Chris Grimes, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on December 7, 2025
Originally had the macro 5x on a BCM upper and it was fantastic, but the micro came out with better options for mounting top dots and this just has a chevron reticle like an ACOG. Out to 400yds this optic has me dead on w my holds with 77gr zeroed at 25yds. Very small and light, excellent reticle and options for piggy back dots like the Hero Mod.
Pros:
  • light
  • Excellent reticle
  • Affordability and ruggedness
Cons:
  • None

Slx 5x review

by Kev, Verified Owner from OR, United States Written on November 29, 2025
The optic seems nice and clear and the relief seems pretty forgiving. Was able to use the mount that came with it to set it up.. I definitely think the X5 zoom is the best for a 16 inch AR. Looking forward to trying the X3 on my 7 1/2 inch AR. Definitely would buy again.
Pros:
  • The acog redical is great
Cons:
  • no zoom so secondary irons are needed
Best Used for:
  • Quick ranging targets between 100 and 800 m

Can't recommend them enough

by RL, Verified Owner from PA, United States Written on August 30, 2025
This is my 4th PA prism & i still have the first on a 10.5 mock18 build. I personally prefer them over red dots since if they run out of battery they are still an etched reticle. I've never had a problem mounting, zeroing or using any prism from primary arms.

The mounting hardware included is probably good enough for most people & use cases but I've had the best results upgrading to ADM mounts 1.93 & 1.93 spacers on the standard mount if you don't need QD.

Paired this with a top mounted scs 320 for a cheap "acog combo". This has been the lightest 1X-5X i have been able to research. Highly recommend if you need a 5X optic.

Not bad, not good, and not for me

by Lazarus, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on August 7, 2025
Ive previously handled/looked through the PA micro 1x and 3x variants of their prisms, and was waiting for the opportunity to check out the 5x and i have to say, just not for me.

First, the reticle/diopter was blurry out of the box. Not the whole thjng, the center was sharp but the ranging brackets were blurry at the same time. Fiddled with the dippter until everything was more or less in focus, but at least for my eye, there was no setting where it wasnt a strain to focus. If i could see the center chevron/tree clearly, the ranging brackets were still a bit fuzzy, and vice versa. Not sure if this is indicative of a lemon, but im not giving the time to figure it out either.

Second, eye relief and eye box... compared to my admittedly much bulkier/heavier 1-6 lpvo on 5x, the eye relief/box was unacceptable. Ive been behind Acogs before, and while theyre tight on the relief, the eye box is generally much better... and you pay for it. Im not a nose to.charging handle kind of shooter anyway, so again, not for me.

Finally, if PA ever wised up and released something like this in a Glx class, maybe better glass/eyebox in the $700 range, theyd get.my attention again... for now, ill stick with their glx 2x and 1x and LPVOs... the micro prisms just dont have what im after.

For what its worth, the picture was decent, maybe a bit cloudy but definitely flat and useable for someone who holds their rifle that way... just not for me.
Pros:
  • price, sturdy
Cons:
  • eyebox/eye relief, focus
Best Used for:
  • smaller rigs and smaller shooters

Great optic, great value

by Dave Sanford, Verified Owner from NJ, United States Written on August 10, 2024
I’ve tried LVPO, red dot and 3x magnifier, and wanted to try fixed magnification. The 5x micro prism is a solid optic. It’s lightweight, super crisp, has a great reticle (aurora 5.56 bdc), and comes with multiple risers to dial in your optic position for the best sight picture to accomodate eye relief. Personally, I prefer it to my LVPO and dot/3x combo. I paired this with a mini red dot and am happy with that set up. The 5x micro prism doesn’t have a dot mount included, but there are aftermarket options for piggyback or canted dot options.
Pros:
  • illumianted reticle
  • light but solid
  • tactile and audible clicks for windage and elevation
  • Clear crisp easy to zero
Cons:
  • None

PA5x micro prism scope

by Gregory, from MI, United States Written on February 20, 2024
I just purchased this product so my time at the range is not enough for a thorough evaluation. It has a smaller eye box than my full size model but the same reticle and that in itself is optimal for speed and acquisition of the target. It feels solid so thumbs up so far.

great little optic

by Chris, Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on September 21, 2023
Works great. Size and weight is amazing. I got the 12-o’clock bracket and mounted a red dot on top. Love that option. The one thing I don’t like is the fact it’s made in china. I was under the impression it was made in the USA. Unfortunately it is not.
