Shaw fluted 5.56 Barrel
The finish advertised on the image shows a shiny polished with a fluted matte finish. Upon opening the package the whole barrel was a matte finish. Still a good barrel doesn’t affect its functionality came dimpled. I did like the aesthetic of the polished barrel, a little disappointed. I like what I like and I want what I want especially paying the amount I paid. Still really nice barrel
Bonus - The barrel is dimpled
I just received the Shaw 16" straight fluted barrel and was pleased to find out it is dimpled for the gas block. I had checked with customer service to find out whether it was dimpled and they told me it was not. I can't speak for all of them but the one I received is dimpled. It looks great and I look forward to installing it.

looks great and isn’t terribly heavy
I like the finish showing through the hand guard. I nickel plated all of my switches and buttons and this matched those accents well. The firearm is lighter than a 226 wylde I have and they’re basically the same other than BCG & this barrel so I’m guessing the flutes have some part in that. As I understand it, 416R is best for cold climates and I’m in WI so hopefully that is accurate because I’m shooting in 7 degree weather keeping myself warm but that gun is in the cold. All in all, shoots straight for me, looks great, I’m happy.

Impressive
I got the 16” one, and was surprised with how precise the groupings were considering that it’s a carbine length gas system. The kick was a little harsh because of the shorter carbine length gas tube and the extra dwell time, but I still managed to squeeze MOA sized groupings from it. I added an adjustable gas block to mitigate the extra gas since I shoot suppressed, and it helped drop my groupings down to .75 MOA. A mid length gas system would’ve been perfect for this barrel, but a well tuned carbine length did the job just fine with me.
The only improvement I could think of that the manufacturer could’ve done for the product is the nitriding or nitrocarburizing of the barrel for some added barrel life. Besides that, this is an awesome barrel. I’d get me another one, but I’ll wait until they have a mid length gas system for their 16” barrels.
