Stern Defense Handguard
Exactly as I expected, love it, was less expensive on Optics Planet vs Stern Defense website. Fit AR build fine and no modifications needed would recommend to all considering this for their next AR build

Requires the use of it's own proprietary barrel nut.
The handguard requires you to use it's barrel nut. So if you want to just swap out the handguard it will not fit. Especially if you are using a PSA upper. Beyond that it was a nice handguard. Too bad I have to return it
Factory box looked returned
As title says, the box this item came in was taped shut with packing tape. Later I discovered the handguard was missing screws, this was the last part I needed for my .338 ARC build, so I ordered the size screws it appeared to need, and finished the build.

Looks great! But... and it's a BIG but
So the first issue was the lack of the barrel nut wrench it isn't a huge deal but oh well. So once you find the correct wrench you finally get to the install and timing process. I tried every combination of shims they send and nothing would even get it close... So I just lined it up so I could test fit the gas tube. That would not clear the barrel nut even if I could time it correctly. So after a little love from file I got it all to fit correctly and torqued to spec. The handguard looks great and is great quality but the barrel nut is the worst design I have seen... I couldn't in good faith recommend this to anyone..

Nice Piece
Great piece, very comfortable, good look and function, very affordable. Fits great with my 8.5 inch barrel. Only wish it came with a barrel nut wrench. Contacted the company and they were out of stock. Their customer service was very helpful, professional and informative. Will definitely be buying more Stern Defense items. Other then no wrench, 5 stars all the way!

Stern Defense SD MOD5 M lok handguard 8”
Stern Defense SD MOD5 M lok handguard 8” I used on pistol build. 8.5” barrel left enough room to install flash hider. I gave it 3 stars because I could not time it enough to not touch gas tube. The barrel nut is too tall which puts upper pressure on gas tube. It was difficult to get the gas tube passed the barrel but during installation. Not sure how this will affect barrel harmonics but it goes against what I think is correct for accuracy. Need to take to the range to see if I need to change it out.
