Attention Ruger 10/22 fans! Factory original part labelled the bolt stop pin of all steel construction. This part does just what it says, stops the bolt. That steel-on-steel contact isn't necessary with this product. This recoil buffer is made of a stiff but pliable plastic. There is another aftermarket recoil buffer sold here that I am currently testing in my 10/22, however I bought this particular one because it seemed to be of a more solid construction. The reason for the four-star rating is I have not done any testing of this part other than dry fitting it into place.

The new parts fit nicely into the space from the old part ... the gun works fine, have only put a few rounds thru it, looking forward to more extensive testing with a variety of ammo, you have to listen closely to hear to tell any difference of the bolt hitting it but I'm sure it will make a difference in the long run ... you wonder why Ruger couldn't do this from the factory, I doubt it would cost them much if anything ...

Had good experiences with other Volquartsen products for my Ruger 10/22 however this recoil buffer seemed oversized and was very difficult to put in position. I had to taper the ends and use a mallet to knock it into place. Not sure how long it will last when I have to remove and reinstall during complete cleanings of the rifle.
Cons:
- Difficult to install
- Seemed oversized

It was easy to install. It noticeably reduced the shock of the bolt at the end of its travel. I would definitely recommended it. I would buy it again. It is a "must do" when you have the gun apart to upgrade the trigger with a Volquartsen trigger.

Has definitely reduced the sound and recoil impulse when the bolt cycles. Should help to cut down on the wear on the bolt as well. Will definitely pick one up for all my 10/22 rifles in the future. Was a bit difficult to install because it fits much better than the stock pin.
Pros:
- light
- well made
- Functional

Easy installation, very quiet compared to OEM metal buffer and should reduce bolt wear. Volquartsen appears to be a leader in refining or redesigning OEM parts for better function than the manufacturer may desire in light of cost or other considerations.
