Most Helpful Positive Review Worked out great for me
overall a great tool in your bag of goodies...I used it in Iraq, so I didn't have to grab a big set of binos, or look down through my scope on my weapon and point it at anyone... Pros: Small and accessible at all times Cons: glass gets gritty fast
Most Helpful Negative Review Great idea, poor quality
It's a really nice idea, but mine has some really horrible aberrations in the image. The right half of the image is horribly blurred. Looking from the objective lens onto a cross-hatch test pattern, it is easily seen. Pros: Small size Cons: Poor lens quality

Great little monocular, perfect for carrying around

by JustaShooter, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on January 5, 2025
I bought this for my wife for Christmas for when she is at our property in Tennessee. Its a great little optic that fits nicely in her purse so she will have it with her wherever she goes. She's already used it when we went to the Trans-Siberia Orchestra and Mannheim Steamroller concerts and she is delighted with it. Highly recommended if you need a small optic you can take with you anywhere you go!

Vortex monocular

by Joe, Verified Owner from WV, United States Written on July 27, 2024
I bought this for bow hunting timber/field edges. I get tired of my binos getting caught up in my grunt tubes around my neck. It seems to work good for the price and my three year old little boy can use it much easier than binos.
Pros:
  • Size/price
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Hunting, fishing/quick reference

Ideal for my needs

by Ross Riley, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on September 25, 2023
I don't how one could get better optics at this price and this size. 8X is perfect for one handed operation, anymore and the view would be too shaky. Focus ring operates just fine with one hand. Light weight and small enough to easily carry in a shirt pocket. Having lost most of the vision in my right eye there was really no point in carrying binoculars anymore. I'm a big fan of Vortex optics and their warranty. These will go with me on my kayak, hunting and just for fun viewing in general.
Thanks again Optics Planet
Pros:
  • size, light weight, easy one hand operation
Cons:
  • my dog chewed up the strap, must taste good as she never chews up anything ;-)
Best Used for:
  • pocket carry casual viewing, my primary goal is hunting.

Simple and Useful

by Rob, Verified Owner from NV, United States Written on March 29, 2023
This optic is very small and light weight making it extremely useful. It is rugged and can be carried just about anywhere you need it. There is nothing fancy about it which I think is it's biggest strength. The 8x is perfect for scanning and general observation out to about 1000 - 1500 meters. The case is not very good but it's easy to find a replacement because of the size. It can fit into a 5.56 mag pouch.
Pros:
  • Lightweight
  • rugged
  • Small
Cons:
  • case
Best Used for:
  • General observation

Good monocular for the money

by SDG, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on January 3, 2021
I bought this for my wife after a surgery for a detached retina which makes it uncomfortable for her to use binoculars.
As with everything Vortex, the quality is good, and the glass is clear. No complaints.

Glass produces sharp image.
Carrying case is not "tactical" but adequate.
Pros:
  • good 8X carry along.
Cons:
  • None

Great Compact Monocular

by Manny, from CA, United States Written on August 13, 2018
I've used at the range and it's perfect. For the price, it was a no brainer. Clear optics in a small compact design. Looking forward to taking this little guy hunting. This doesn't any means replace a normal size spotting scope or a quality pair of binoculars, but it's definitely a nifty miniaturized version of a pair of binoculars that easily fit in your pant or jacket pockets.
Pros:
  • Small, compact and clear optics
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Range spotting out to 100 yards and small game hunting.

Backpack backup

by springfield13, Verified Owner from NJ, United States Written on July 1, 2018
My wife and I both have Vortex Diamondback binoculars are 100% satisfied with them. More than once we went hiking but forgetting to take the binoculars with us. So we figured to keep a minocular in our pack. Looking at all the options we kept coming back to the Vortex Solo 8x32. It is lightweight, optically clear and has a solid feel to it. It comes with a nice, durable pouch with a belt loop that won't take up much pack space. And with the low price it was a no brainer.
