Good scope for the price!
Good image quality, and positive click adjustments that tracked correctly. Parallax adjustment was off by a large margin when I got it, couldn't focus past 160 yards, but Vortex paid shipping both ways, and repaired the scope and shipped it back to me the same day they received it. Great service. Th...

Doesn't like recoil
Becareful about installing this on a rifle with significant recoil...300 Win Mag, 375 H&H, etc. This scope cannot take it (though Vortex will swear that it can). I found out the hard way and it came within days of ruining the hunt of a lifetime in Alaska.
Vortex fixed the scope and returned i...

Great quality at a great price
Very clear optics with repeatable and consistent adjustments. Outstanding warranty. Very rugged. Handles daily hunting abuse with ease. This is my third purchase of this model Vortex scope and that alone should say enough about my opinion of this product.
Pros:
- rugged
- Warranty
- clear optics
Cons:
- None
Would recommend: Yes
Excellent scope for the money
I put this great scope on my CZ 455 Varmint rifle that I use to shoot targets at 50 yards. As a rule, I'm VERY impressed with Vortex products, having them on other rifles. This is my first Diamondback and it won't be my last. EXTREMELY satisfied with the clarity and quality of this scope. Also it is an excellent value for the money. A Diamondback will go on my next build for sure.
Pros:
- value
- Clarity
Cons:

- Target shooting

Thought it was great until...
Well I have had my vortex diamondback 4-12x40 for 3 years it's always held zero and been good that way but it has always had a haze in low light. I recently bought a Nikon pro staff 7 4-16x42 I can't even tell you how disappointed I am in the vortex compaired with the Nikon it is night and day difference. The Nikon is ultra clear and amazing in low light and when you pull the rifle up its just perfect I pulled out the vortex to compair pulled it up and was blown away how hard it was to see through. I will no longer be spending my money on vortex. Granted the Nikon was around 200$ more but it is worth every penny. I have also had the cheaper nikons and I feel like they were also more clear. Hope this review helps at least go look through each then decide.
Pros:
- Holds zero well
Cons:
- Haze in low light
- little eye relief
- hard to aquire a sharp image

Great scope
I got this for a .223/556 bolt action with a 24" med. heavy free floated barrel.I bought the gun as a target rifle only. Optics are sharp and clear all the way to 12X.Sighting in went as normal. It holds 0 with no problem. Field of view is good with no fish eye even at 12X.So why only 4 stars. Its big as in long and gives a little trouble working the bolt. Also I can not loosen the screws on it to reset zero.It would be very hard to find a better scope in 4-12 X 40 in this price range. This is my first Vortex scope ( I normally go with Nikon.), but it will not be my last.

Vortex Diamondback 4-12x 40 BDC
Execellent scope for the money (as expected from Vortex) dialed in and zeroed at 100 yards in 5 shots or so (I'm not a very experienced shooter so this may be better in experienced hands).
Optics Planet's service was great also, they worked with me over the phone to get me into the right product and delivery was early. Will buy again!

Defective / Inaccurate Objective Bell / Poor Eyebox / The Build & Performance Do Not Match The Price
I give two stars, one for the appearance design, and the other for the reticle design.
I can only imagine whomever is responsible for “this scope’s” performance does not, or has never used a rifle scope that works as it should.
The first sign of trouble came after setting the eyepiece focus I viewed an object at a measured 50 yard distance, adjusted the objective ring to obtain focus, and it was on the 100+ yard marker and it would vary in repeated attempts. I tested this at various magnifications and it varied and sometimes it would come closer which indicates to me I had a bad copy.
The Eye-box performance is totally unforgiving. You have to align your eyes and head exactly in the side to side & fore and aft positions to keep an clean full field of view while set to the medium to upper magnification ranges. This is the kind of trait I would expect in a cheap-o optic that came with a budget rifle in a combo package.
The resettable turrets.... On one of them the hash marks do not align landing them exactly in between.
The build. It’s a nice looking scope. There is a + / - sticker on the fast focus eyepiece that looks like it will roll up or come off any minute. I guess they forgot adding it on the last minute. Everything else is clearly marked. When you turn the objective ring it can be heard like a fine hiss.
I returned the scope for an exchange fr one at the same price point I know will perform for what it is worth or more. A Leupold VARI-X 1 3-9x40 fixed AO.

Vortex Diamondback Works for Me
I was looking for a mid-priced scope with good glass and a reticle set up which would allow me to shoot various ranges by applying holdover or adjusting my elevation for longer ranges -- I found it.
This scope provides me with the reticle set up and sufficient magnification to shoot to extended ranges with relative ease. The reticle allows me to make quick adjustments for three elevations (MOAs) and the elevation turret offers plenty of travel to suit my needs for longer range compensation. There are also hash-marks for windage adjustment too.
The glass is nice and clear. Focus is clear and I can adjust the AO to compensate for parallax at various ranges.
Overall I've had a good experience with this scope and I consider it an excellent value.

Great for high powered spring pellet guns
Needed an adjustable objective (down to 10 yards and out to 100+) scope that has a lifetime warranty (springers eat scopes) and excellent picture quality for a high powered spring pellet gun. This one fit the bill. I am very pleased, though a bit pricey when you add the AO ($100 more than the standard).
Pros: Lifetime warranty. Adjustable objective. Clear.
Cons: A bit pricey when adding the adjustable objective.

Solid scope
Very decent scope for the money. I'm not blown away with this item, like most people that comment on vortex products. Scope adjustments seem accurate and the glass is just as good as a VXII for less $ so I cannot complain. Best warranty in the business so if you don't like it they'll take it back or exchange it for another. Give it a try.
Pros: AO focus down to 10 yards
Cons: Not side focus
