Most Helpful Positive Review Excellent product
After soliciting opinions here and weighing all the options, I decided to "put my toe in the water" and purchase a Yukon "Ranger" Digital Night Vision. http://www.opticsplanet.net/yukon-di...ger-28041.html For $399, I'm impressed. Now I've never owned a pair of NVGs (night-vision glasses)...

Most Helpful Negative Review Yukon did not respond to support request
My wife purchased this as a gift that I picked out. Part of the view screen worked just as advertised - another 1/3 to 1/2 was totally grayed out and unusable. I tried to contact Yukon support and couldn't reach them ("leave a message"). They never got back to me, so back the product goes to the ...

Garbage pile

by John, from CA, United States Written on September 15, 2018
Bought this expecting to get what you pay for and being ex military I knew the cost value of good night vision devices. It was relatively inexpensive and for the price, it worked well. But if you expect to use it more than once or twice, you will be disappointed. After about 3 hours of usage time, the metal nodes in the battery compartment came loose and are now floating inside the device. For 700 dollars, I got a piece a garbage that I used twice and is now of no use. Do not buy any products from this company, I fear that poor component and parts quality is of the most poor quality I have ever seen. How they are still in business is beyond me.
Pros:
  • It worked
Cons:
  • Piece of garbage
Best Used for:
  • Throwing in the trash

Worked well but no parts support

by Antman, from Australia Written on January 28, 2017
Bought one of these for about $700 and quite impressed with performance although perhaps field of vision a bit narrow. After about 10 hours use the image in the eyepiece was only white, typical of a CMOS failure. I contacted Yukon a number of times who did not respond, I contacted a local repairer of night vision devices who were also unable to get a response from Yukon so it appears there is no support or parts available. They are way too expensive to be throw away items but appears Yukon view them as such. Wont buy another Yukon product as a result

Good for beginners

by lipmen, from Aux, New Zealand Written on March 19, 2015
Pretty easy to use, qualities descent. screens a little small and can be hard on the eye, would be better if you could zoom in and out instead of having to adjust focus to see short to long. i bought to see whats flying around in space and it does that very well. you can see things that cant be seen by the eye so im happy.

Texas Hog Hunter

by Rolando Zapata, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on October 19, 2014
This review is based on my needs (night hog hunting) for this particular piece of equipment. I am reiterating what some of the previous reviews have mentioned.
The service from Optics Planet was great. The item arrived a day early and the recommendations from their service department have been extremely helpful.
1.I experienced problems with the lens caps from the get-go. They fall off easily. They need to be designed to stay on or come attached to the unit. (Lost one of the caps the first time I used it on a night hog hunt.
2. The focus is not hard to master but needs to have a tighter fit in order to hold it. I was looking at a feeder from a hunting blind and had to re-focus every time I picked the monocular up.
3. The IR illuminator points a bit to the left of the viewing area. (not a big deal)
4. The carrying bag for the monocular has got to be one of the poorest designs imaginable. It is way too small. You have a very real chance of turning them on when storing them in the bag (draining the batteries) and is incapable of holding ANY accessories.
5. Battery life is ok. I got thru a night’s hunting with one battery pack using it off and on thru out the night.
6. You do have some issues of readjusting your eye sight after using it. In my case it wasn’t an issue because I had a friend spotting with the Yukon and I was doing the shooting.
These issues are more annoying than actual impediments. Bottom line, the unit has a detection range of approximately 150-...

Warning to International Buyers

by SafetySam, from Australia, Australia Written on October 18, 2014
The image, brand logo and title state this is a YUKON model. What is being sent is Sightmark. Optics Planet expect buyer to pay for return International Postage because they sent the item either by mistake or deliberate hoping no complaint would be raised.

If I had made the mistake, I would expect to pay without question, but I didn't.

Yes I would recommend the YUKON brand. Sightmark totally unknown in Australia.
Pros:
  • YUKON brand
Cons:
  • SightMark

Piece of crap

by Legacy Reviewer, from CO, United States Written on April 1, 2013
My wife bought me this for Christmas at my request. I finally got to Colorado to try it out at night and it is virtually worthless. Maybe this one is defective, but focusing on anything more than about 10 feet away is impossible. And what you can see is not that much better than with the naked eye.
Pros: None
Cons: Useless

Poor Service

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on March 8, 2013
I am terminally disappointed with service offered by Yukon. Instead of the modest repairs needed, I was offered a new product at a pitifully reduced price. The cost of returning the old unit, as required, offsets the price reduction on the new one. No more Yukons for me.
Pros: Low price
Cons: Poor service

great long range invisible IR, but...

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on September 18, 2012
Ordered 3 NV devices; this plus Bushnell 2X24 and Stealthview II 3x42. Kept Bushnell 2x24. Neither digital had usable starlight capability, requiring constant illuminator use. Hard on illuminators and batteries. 5X FOV too small to use for surveillance. This device great if you have flat open fields or water (searchable horizons)for long range use. Obstructions (incl. leaves) less than 70 feet away produce reflections that wash out large area. High power illuminator invisible beyond 6 feet.
Pros: excellent long range illuminator, long range makes 5X usable
Cons: 5X=small field of view, no starlight capability, low power illuminator visible and died 2nd use

Best device for the price.

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on April 20, 2012
This unit is outstanding for the price range. Right out of the box, it's easy to set up and use. The 2 focus adjusters are very easy to configure. ADJUST THE EYE PIECE FIRST until you have a full view (it will still be blurry, but don't worry, that's what the other adjuster will fix). Also, it works GREAT with my Mac and Windows 7 computers. In fact, when hooked up to a computer and using the fullscreen to navigate the stars (or whatever you use it for), you DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT have to adjust ANYTHING. It somehow auto-focuses and you don't need to do anything but move your tripod and record. BRILLIANT.

The unit works in the DAYtime and night with excellent results for each. The IR illuminator is UNNECESSARY/no effect unless you are in fairly close quarters. Battery life is also better than expected, but I often use the AC adapter.

STAR GAZERS/UFO HUNTERS*****This is the unit for you!!!! I can't say that enough.. WOW!

I have this thing aimed out my 8th floor apartment window on a tripod. I can see 4 stars with my naked eye (fairly large city), but with this unit I see THOUSANDS...Yes, thousands. No exaggeration. And let me tell you, there are things flying around our airspace that aren't conventional technology.

In conclusion, this is a sturdy, reliable (lifetime warranty), and professional night vision device. Like others have said, this IS NOT a toy. This is the real deal with amazing clarity and quality.

"Just shut up and give them your money" haha ki...
