Product Info for Wilson Combat Complete Upper Assembly
Wilson Combat Complete High Performance AR Uppers; Our complete High Performance AR Upper Receiver Units use the same top tier components, skilled gunsmith assembly and final finishing as our prized custom AR rifles that we have expertly built since 1999; The Wilson Combat machined, hand polished, match grade stainless barrel is the core of these accurate and reliable upper units that will turn your lower into a custom AR rifle well equipped for hunting, duty or tactical competition.; Other Wilson Combat components like our versatile and lightweight TRIM rail, Accu-Tac flash hider and NP3 bolt carrier assembly with ensure that your upper exceeds your cosmetic and performance expectations.; Each Wilson Combat High Performance custom upper is test fired and finished in our Armor-Tuff coating and is certified to drop on and function with any mil-spec, AR lower unit; Recon SRThe Recon SR (Suppressor Ready) is the ideal package for a tactical shooter who wants the shortest possible suppressed AR-15 rifle that isn't classified as an NFA registered weapon. The Recon SR has an extra long 14.0" TRIM rail for a seamless mating to our Whisper Suppressor and extra real estate for your preferred rail mounted accessories. The Recon SR has a 14.7" medium weight barrel that is ideal for a high rate of fire and features a permanently mounted Rapid Thread attachment that attaches to our Wilson Combat Whisper Suppressor. A permanently attached Accu-Tac flashider is available for locales where owning a suppressor is not an option; .458 SOCOMThe 458 SOCOM cartridge offers the practical ballistics of the legendary .45-70 in a modern AR platform rifle and is capable of firing 250 to 600 grain .458 caliber bullets in a lightweight, controllable package. For hunting medium to large game, bullets in the 250 grain- 400 grain weight range possess devastating killing power. We have found that the .458 SOCOM offers peak downrange performance when firing the purpose built Barnes 300 grain TAC TX bullet in the 1750fps - 1800fps velocity range; The industry standard 1-14 twist barrels seem to be the best choice for over 350 grain bullets and/or subsonic loads and will shoot all suitable bullet weights acceptably well. We recommend this twist rate if you plan to use a suppressor to eliminate the chance of a baffle strike. We have found the 1-22 twist rate to be the most accurate with the lighter bullet weights (250 gr. to 350 gr.) and this twist to be near optimal for the ever popular Barnes 300 gr. TAC-TX bullet. If you plan to use your SOCOM for hunting, the 1-22 twist is probably your best choice.; The SOCOM is also capable of launching 500- 600 grain bullets at subsonic velocities for suppressed or tactical use.Building the .458 SOCOM takes only two caliber specific parts-a .458 specific bolt and barrel- Wilson Combat is further optimizing their .458 SOCOM rifles by adding an adjustable gas block, extra power action spring and straight gas tube as a standard reliability upgrade. Having the ability to easily adjust your gas volume allows the end user to fine tune their carbine's bolt velocity for a specific load's power. Minor machining has also been performed to the ejection port opening of the upper receiver to allow clearance for the larger cartridge; The .458 SOCOM feeds flawlessly from many standard unmodified 5.56 AR magazines. Our extensive testing has found the Lancer L5 AWM magazine to be optimal for this round. The Lancer 20 round 5.56 magazine holds seven SOCOM rounds and the 30 round 5.56 magazine will hold nine. The .458 SOCOM achieves optimum ballistic performance in barrel lengths shorter than 16" so there is no need for longer, less portable barrels.In our opinion the .458 SOCOM has several design and performance advantages over the.450 Bushmaster and the .50 Beowulf including improved functional reliability and the use of a standard AR magazine; Upper Specifications Upper Receiver; Forged 7075-T6 (Modified for .458 SOCOM) Laser Etching; Wilson Combat Logo and Caliber T.R.I.M.; Tactical Rail Interface, 13.8" Gas Block; Adjustable, Lo-Profile - Straight Gas Tube Bolt Carrier Assembly; NP3 Plated Muzzle Device; Rapid-Thread Muzzle Brake for Whisper Suppressor - (Permanently Attached) Finish; Armor-Tuff on Upper Receiver and Barrel; Barrel Specifications Chamber; .458 SOCOM Feed Ramps; Purpose Built .458 SOCOM Specific Barrel Extension Gas Block Seat; .9375" Diameter by .900" Length - Dimpled for Set Screw Gas System; Carbine Length Length; 14.7" Material; Stainless Steel, Type 416R, Barrel Grade Muzzle Threads; 11/16" x 24 Profile; Recon SR Tactical (Suppressor Ready) Rifling; 1:22, RH, Six Groove, Precision Button Rifling Weight; 23 oz.; NOTE: The .458 SOCOM requires the use of an extra power buffer spring to slow your rifle's bolt carrier speed and improve feeding. We include an extra power "carbine length" buffer spring with our new .458 SOCOM uppers. If your rifle uses a fixed "rifle length" buffer and tube this spring is not compatible. Please consult with the manufacturer of your rifle / lower to determine what you have.; To replace your buffer spring, follow the directions below:; Cock your hammer on your unloaded lower assembly. The buffer / spring assembly is held in place by a spring-loaded buffer retainer. This retainer needs to be depressed with a rigid tool or a punch. Be careful not to mar your receiver; Note - the buffer is under heavy spring tension from the spring, so it may launch out of the buffer tube when the retainer is fully depressed. Remove your buffer and spring assembly. Reinstall old buffer and new spring, you may not need to fully depress your retainer for this if you twist the spring and buffer as you reinstall it.;
