So wrong, can't possibly be wronger

Written on Jan 03, 2026

What' makes this handguard so great? NOTHING, because... it's not great at all.

Firstly, it took ALG three (3) iterations to produce things thing. They need fourth and fifth to get it even close or right. Thankfully though, it's been discontinued. The barrel nut that it comes with is ALUMINUM. Not only that, it's a weird shape for which you need a special tool. But the tool was included, right? WRONG - so Secondly, you have to buy the tool, SEPARATELY. Good luck calling ALG asking them to send you one - if you get through, they actually might send one out, for free, MAYBE. Unless, you live in Commiefornia, where you can't get "gunsmithing tools" without a protracted age verification process. Thanks Gov'ner!

Thirdly, (and that should be the name of this unit) the picatinny rail sits higher than the mil spec upper’s (Spikes Tactical). BY ABOUT 1mm! So this one's definitely the case of - you best bring matching upper from ALG for this "bad boy"

This handguard is so frustrating, I wanted to bash it into something harder repeatedly, with high frequency and great force. There are MUCH BETTER handguards out there that don't cost a bundle and have you jump through hoops to get it on and dialed in. Shame..... shame....! Mercy descended upon this thing and it’s been discontinued. ALG might be as well…

But why bother?

But why bother with this one when you can get the one with adjustable gas block for same or less?

Sub 2000 fail

Written on Jan 06, 2025

Put on my S2000G3 and after about 35-40 shots it fell off - picked it up to examine what happened - the metal bolt cog lug that's impressed into the polymer had come out of its hole - so the design is flawed. If the picrail rod (which is maybe 2.5mm diameter) is so flimsy that it doesn't fill the picrail slot, and the locking mech is predicated upon a cogwille nut impressed in polymer, then there's a lot of play during recoil that will dislodge it

Which is exactly what happened to me. On the flip side, the controls are good, the laser id decent, so if they can only provide for thicker picrail screw and better locking mech, it'd be good to go. Returning my for an exchange, thinking of epoxying the coglugnut so it'll never leave it's hole. Maybe I had a defective one... who knows..

Almost functional

Written on May 22, 2024

The good: can hold 8 rounds, smooth and sleek so insertion is easy, full metal, easy removal floor plate, slight curve aids holding the mag, high quality spring metal. The undecided: stagger load design follower. The bad: front of magazine is straight -no half circle cutout, the follower is not anti-tilt by far - it dips in about an inch or more, the feed lips are ajar so the cartridges get stuck sometimes.

I had a heck of a time at the range - constant jams. The main issue was that the ammo sat way back in the mag so when you drive it into the receiver, the top casing would interact with the bolt catch protrusion mean to activate bolt last open function (when the follower touches it upon last cartridge being spent). The naturally heavy recoil of 450bm would push all the cartridges forward so sometimes things did cycle correctly. But not reliably at all.

So I did the following fixes: opened the mag and reversed the spring front to back so the tip now supports the front of the follower; tapped the two tabs in the back of the mag so they hold the cartridges farther forward, exposing the follower correctly so it can interact with the bolt catch, hammered in the lips with a hard plastic hammer so they hold the cartridges tightly

Problems solved, but there are better mags for less money, like the ACS 7rnds which is an absolutely well constructed mag

Shaky breaky

Written on May 07, 2024

Price is nice, but it's heavy and it rattles like a maracas, on a mil-spec buffer. Absolutely nowhere on the Xtreme Tactical Sports package does it state mil-spec, so I think that's just OpticsPlanet filling in the blanks without measuring. There's a good half mm gap between the buffer tube and the stock. Also, the release button sticks sometimes due to the way it's engineered.

So mil-spec it is not, it's DEFINITELY com-spec, but on the flip side, if you want to get down with some sick Caribean or Latin beats, you've got a ready made maracas (with mil-buffer tube, on com-spec, that might actually fit snug)

Sturdy and functional

Written on May 03, 2024

Like my spouse... sturdy and functional. Full metal with rivets on the edges, screen printied E-Lander Mags with logo and .450 Bushmaster - wish it was a bit brighter, but it's still legible. I was surprised that the follower is plastic and very much looks like a 556 follower - dark gray. So when you load the 450 ammo, it kinda staggers them in a very slight zigzag pattern. Oh and the description is wrong - it actually holds eight (8) rounds, comfortably. With eight in it, there's a 1/4" inch give when you push with your thumb, and nice bounceback. 450 Bushmaster is a "straight wall"... kinda. It tapers at the end ever so slightly, so haveing a "kinda" banana mag makes sence in the feeding sequence. The follower is NOT tilt proof and it will tilt forward, deep, as the spring is pushy on the back. But the follower never got snagged - it always bounces right back. Pushing the eight rounds out with my thumb to clear the mag is effortless - got caught up on the very last round a bit, but that could be because the spring isn't broken in just yet. The bottom plate is tentioned by the spring but held in the a rather large detent, whcih is easy to push in with the time of the bullet so the plate can be removed. The front lip of the magazine is straight - some people use a dremel to file it in a crescent moon (half circle) so the ammo can "leave" the magazine better. I find that's completely unnecessary here, because the design of this mag pushes the top cartridge high, high enough in

Different mother

Got two, and the packaging was different as well as what seems the selectors themselves.... It's almost as if they were manufactured at different fascilities - most likely. Take a look at the picture - the price and the pauper...

But they both work fine so... why spend ridiculous money on ambi selector - I've abused plenty of low cost one, NONE has ever failed me after thousands of rounds

Yeah but...

Written on Jan 05, 2024

This one's nice... But... 20R-BSC-XTS2-XTS-104 is nicer. Same thing, except the QD cups are included (two, one on each side, secured by a screw. And, the 104 comes in retail packaging plus has a recoil mitigation system. BOTH 106 and 104 rattle with different mil-spec buffer tubes at the longest extension. This doesn't happen with my Magpul stocks. But overall, down and dirty dawg...

Rimfire winner

Written on May 09, 2023

Have 17hmr rimfire upper that doesn't work with notched triggers - insists on single stage mil spec. That doesn't rock my boat, so I replaced my Aero 2 stage with this one - not only the 17hmr bolt slides over it with no problem, but this one is actually a better trigger than what I had in (which was outstanding already). So now, got another one for my other hand :) (AR15). Pretty happy with this purchase so far

Mr. Wilson, is that you?

Written on Dec 13, 2022

And I could be wrong here, but... isn't this THE SAME exact trigger sold by Wilson Combat for over 1c note? Good steel, good company, great vendor. This one's a winner in my book. I've not dropped it in yet, but feels very spot on solid. Word is you get sub 3lbs pull (depending on where you measure, of course) but with standard springs it comes to about 3.5lbs, which is a golden balance between hunting and competition, IMHO. I might get one more if range shows good results
