Lasermax Guide Rod Red Laser Sight for Glock42
This is a 'must have' for the G42. And it isn't that much more expensive than other laser add-ons out there. The installation was very easy and the laser comes true to aim point. But more importantly, it doesn't add any bulk to an already small pistol, it's easy to operate, and you can still use you...

Avoid! Fails frequently and wastes batteries. Don't depend on this in a pinch!
I bought one of these for my G42 and another for my G43. I liked the internal design as it works well with my concealment holsters. Uses a sliding Slide Lock to engage. Too easily engaged! Unfortunately, it will randomly engage in a pocket, glove box or holster and drain the batteries. After 3 or...

Easy fitment in 43X
I had no problems with the installation at all... I didn't use the included "tool", as it was easy enough to "rock-and-angle" the slide stop release out, and similarly install the replacment slide-stop-release-and-on-off-switch back into position. I dunno if I spent even two minutes total in the install.
If you can field strip a Glock, you got this lol.
As for usage, I find that relieving the spring tension (by **slightly** pushing the slide to the rear) facilitates the either side position of turning the laser on. (NOTE: I serendipitously found that at the particular tension I have the Tulster IWB holster I use set to, drawing the Glock moved the slide stop release enough to turn the laser on "automatically".) That [slight] slide tension relief also makes it easier in centering the slide stop release (i.e., to turn the laser off).
In case you were wondering (and why would you lol), my use case for a laser is basically dark environments (i.e. night use); adding a laser makes up for my vision impairments (astigmatism) and far sightedness (my focus on iron [night] sights can be problematic even in full light, let alone darkness). I have optical enhancement (laser & red dots) on most of my weapons. (I don't go out much at night - the laser is rarely necessary - so battery longevity isn't really an issue.)
I chose the Lasermax in particular because it can be used with my non-light bearing EDC holster of choice... it's internal, so it fits bog-standard holsters.

Great! Easy to install, low profile!
I am buying these laser optics for all of my handguns now. This is a great product!I was able to install it with a little help from YouTube on how to remove the locking pin. Outside that it only took me a few minutes. Great design. I will be purchasing for my other handguns now.
Pros:
- Low profile looks like part of the original gun.
Cons:
- None as of yet, I have not shot it to assess the accuracy yet.

Works as designed, great product
I've been very pleased with the Lasermax Guide Rod in my Glock 26, so I ordered one for my Glock 42. Easy install and works as described. I actually prefer this one, as it's a constant on laser, as oppose to the flashing laser on the Glock 26.

Lousy spring. Jams and stove pipes occur
It worked for a few rounds, then jammed and had some stove pipes. Took it back apart and had a gunsmith look at it. He said the spring was not strong enough to hold it in position. He put it back together and it worked for a few rounds again. Then it started with the jamming and stove pipes. I have never had any trouble with my Glock 42 until this.

Bill Collector
The Laser Max guide laser was very easy to install and once I installed it was impressed with the design of the laser inside the spring housing and the on / off side does not interfere with my IWB holster !!! I absolutely love it!!

Makes a good CCP even better
Installation was very easy, as is activation. The auto shutoff feature is especially welcome considering this pistol is pocket carried most of the time. I also have a Lasermax weapon light on my G42, and the two together make for a versital if small concealed carry pistol. The recoil spring is a bit heavier than the original, but I got used to it in no time. It may seem like an expensive upgrade, especially when paired with the weapon light, but it is definitely worth it.
Pros:
- Quality, functionality, and utility
Cons:
- None

Easy to Install and Operate
I selected this laser sight option because I wanted to be able to use the concealment holsters I already own for OWB use. This alone makes this a very practical laser option. I normally like the CTC laser options that mount to the grip, but learned from a CTC rep at the Shot Show that CTC has no plans to ever make a grip-mount laser for the G42 or G43, only rail-mount. (Sorry CTC, you just lost 2 sells). Several of my friends in LE use the G43 (and a few G42)as a back-up. They also like the option (but most don't want to spend the extra money to buy one.) The rod laser greatly enhances what is already an excellent concealable firearm. It was VERY easy to install. On my first trip to the range I had mixed results, but in all fairness I was on on outdoor range during daylight hours. It is a low to no-light device after all, so I didn't expect peek performance outside. It required no adjustments for zeroing. Recoil made the laser switch off a couple of times. This may just be a training issue on my part. Hope to take it to an indoor range soon. It worked well enough that I bought one for my G43 (which is apparently a more popular item, so expect a wait for delivery).
Pros:
- Conceals Well
- Easy to zero.
- Easy to install.
Cons:
- Pricey
- Problems with recoil
Best Used for:
- concealment with exisiting holsters
