Most Helpful Negative Review Had High Hopes...
I did have high hopes for this scope. It arrived well packaged, but upon opening it up, there were immediately noticeable issues with the finish. On multiple surface edges, the black finish had been rubbed off, and there areas of rough metal on the base. The painted numbers and lines were done so ve...

Hi-lux optics

by Dennis, Verified Owner from AZ, United States Written on September 24, 2023
I used the old Vietnam Era scope on a m14/m21 when I was in the military. Yes a long time ago. When I saw it I had to buy it for the memories. It's a very durable scope and the auto ranging works awesome, just as I remember .

Fun to Shoot! Different than Conventional Scope

by Jack, from CA, United States Written on November 16, 2022
This was my first ART scope. I have a soft spot for the M14.

I had read much about the Leatherwood scopes in Senich's books and heard they were effective from first hand accounts.

Setup was easier than it seemed. Called the guys at Hi-Lux and they sent me a starting cam setting and ballistic chart to use for my 6.5 CM. They recommended that I sight in 1" low at 25 yards. Brought the gun out to 300 yds after and it was pretty close to dead nuts.

After that I was able to engage the steel plates out to 800 using only the cam. Looking forward to trying this out at further distances if I can find a range that long.

The cam works pretty well. I was able to engage silhouette targets at various distances rapidly by framing the shoulder width in the center of the reticle.

I watched some videos on Youtube and found out that you can uncouple the magnification from the cam distance.
Pros:
  • Clear glass & Reticle
  • Don't need to dial dope
  • Built In Mount
Cons:
  • Requires some initial setup
Best Used for:
  • Target shooting

Great Scope, accurate, easy to use

by Robert, from NV, United States Written on December 10, 2021
The scope does what it states it can. Move you seamlessly from yard line to yard line once you get it dialed in. The fit was fine, retical was clear and level. Good quality optic except for the finish on the tube could be better. When it arrived it looked a bit "worn" when I got it. Particularly, at and around the optic. Quality control?
Pros:
  • clear optics
  • Rugged & reliable
Cons:
  • finish and quality control
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • Hunting , long distant shooting
  • Sport Shooting, range trips

Stay Away From This

by ML, from CA, United States Written on January 25, 2021
I received mine with scratches, dings and one of the rings had an entire 1/4 section missing paint. Not sure if it flaked off or if someone hit it on something in the factory that hard that it chipped it. Rings arrived completely loose, including the one that the manual says "Never loosen". The rings are all out of alignment. These are multiple things that should have easily been caught during a routine QA check. I can't speak of the performance because mine was bad out of the box.
Pros:
  • None
Cons:
  • everything

Hi Lux ART 1200

by John Erickson, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on June 25, 2020
I wanted to like this, but the quality is SO BAD. Very fragile and nothing is machined to tight tolerances. Don’t make the same mistake I did. If you want an automatic trajectory scope get one of the electronic ones from Nikon.
Pros:
  • None
Cons:
  • Cheaply made of poor materials and poor tol
  • Junk material and tolerances
  • Poor materials and workmanship
Best Used for:
  • Dont use!

Excellent Scope

by BrianT, from FL, United States Written on May 4, 2019
Overall a great rifle scope. The glass is very clear and the reticle is very fine. The ranging squares make range estimation a breeze. All adjustments are positive and the click stops have a good feel to them. The reticle illumination is a definite plus especially when contrast is needed.
Pros:
  • positive adjustments
  • Reticle illumination
Cons:
  • a little too high off the receiver but managable
Best Used for:
  • All around hunting and target shooting

Chinese made piece of #@!#!@

by iRasman, from OK, United States Written on December 13, 2017
Having been asked on many occasions how I like my Hi-Lux Leatherwood scope I am finally able to offer my honest opinion. It is a Chinese made piece of #@!@!#.
In Brief if you plan to use it for anything other than a conversation piece forget about it, move on. I have had nothing but trouble out of this Chinese made !@#$. My other Hi-Lux CMR has been fine. So I took a chance and purchased the ART 1200 based on the Leatherwood reputation. Thinking I would be able to teach my children to shoot long distance. This is due to the calibrated ranging. So what was the problem? After about 10 rounds out of my M12 same for AR10. The calibrated base comes loose. The scope will not hold Zero at 100 meters. Heck it is not even on paper. You spend $600.00 on a scope, does it seems reasonable that it would hold zero? Im talking about holding zero from one shot to the next. As far as turrent tracking expectations. These were set low I don’t expect a 600.00 scope to track accurately and I was not disappointed . So after several trips to the local optics shop to have the scope fixed with no luck. I contacted the manufacturer who made a less than generous offer of $300.00 trade in value for the defective product in exchange for a new scope. I have considered a couple of the Hi-Lux scopes and found the optics to be terrible. One of these was the 1-8 CMR 34 mm tube looking through the glass the wall eye was terrible. It is a first focal plane scope and I don’t think I have ever seen so much re...
