Most Helpful Positive Review Nikon P-Tactical Superdot MOA Red Dot Sight
Love this sight. As soon as I received this Red Dot Sight I was out on the range trying it out on my AR-15. I had to only fire 3 rounds to zero it in, made minor adjustments prior to zeroing in at 25 meters. At 100 yards I hit the bullets eye 6 out 8 times, and hit 2 time just right below it. It's e...

Most Helpful Negative Review Failed After 5 Months and Warranty Hassles
Bought my P-tac in May 2019 and it failed after five months. While shooting, the Diode/dot-projector (what to call it?) popped right out into the middle of the main housing. Of course, I sent it to Nikon for service. No joy: Nikon has left the shooting optics market. So what? If your P-Tac dot b...

Won’t stay sighted in

by Keeopac, from IA, United States Written on December 6, 2020
Bought with great expectations. Store I bought it from mounted it to my 20 gage and bore sighted it. Took it too my gun range and fired from 25 yards. Didn’t even hit the back board. Moved up to 10 yards and was able to get it on paper. Moved back to 25 yards and finally got it sighted in with about a 4 inch grouping. Moved out to 50 yards and it was way high and left. After multiple shots was able to get about a 5 inch grouping. First day of Deer hunting missed an easy 50 yard shot, not once but twice. Went back to gun range and found it was hitting 6-8 inches high and right. Can’t trust a sight that won’t stay sighted.
Pros:
  • bright red dot
Cons:
  • None

Easy to mount and sight in. Very nicely constructed, good quality.

by David Rohm, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on July 31, 2020
I am very pleased how well the Superdot has performed. I used the low-mount setup and installed it on my old S&W 22 A-1 pistol, it worked liked a champ. It fits perfectly on the weaver mount. It took roughly one magazine to get it sighted in at 25 yards. The view through the lens is very clear and the 2 moa dot is sharp. I also recently purchased the Nikon P-Tactical Spur and installed it on my Ruger 22/45 lite. It took longer to sight in the Spur than the Superdot. Regardless, I am very pleased with the controls and operation of both red dot systems. The reason I chose the Nikon sights is because of current long delays & delivery uncertainty for comparable Vortex products. After the performance of both sights I'm very happy that I selected the Nikon units (although the lifetime warranty for the Vortex products would have been nice). Until ammunition shortages get resolved I'll continue to use the Nikon Superdot on my 22 pistol. I am looking forward to trying the Superdot (with the included high mount) on my AR-15. Meanwhile, I'll continue to have fun burning through 22 ammo.
Pros:
  • Easy to install
  • Very well constructed
  • clean clear view with sharp dot
Cons:
  • 5 year warranty

Bad On/Off switch

by Tommy Boy, Verified Owner from ME, United States Written on April 10, 2020
I love NIKON, I have binoculars, scopes and cameras. They have some of the clearest lens's available. HOWEVER.. this particular unit arrived, I read the manual and put in the battery. Nothing. would not light up. I pulled pulled another used battery out of another optic thinking that was the issue. No dice, would not work. Next morning woke up, figured I would take another look and as soon as I turned it on it lit up. GREAT! Just a glitch. got the setting just right, optics clear, reticle crystal clear, all is well. Tried to turn it off, wouldn't turn off!! WTF! Left it on and went to work. Came home and it had turned itself off so took ANOTHER look and tried to turn it on, NOTHING. Press and hold, press and release, nothing. OK.. let me try one last thing because I really don't want to return it. I run to the store, buy a brand new battery. Get home, remove the battery sticker and put in. Nothing. Had a buddy come over to take a look and make sure the issue wasn't me, It wasn't. Sad, because it's a small, compact, tight and solid..... with the exception of the on/off button. Major issues. It has been returned!!!
Pros:
  • Looked great, compact, crystal clear
Cons:
  • Could never trust that particular unit
Best Used for:
  • paper weight

Great all around RDS

by Caveman, from CO, United States Written on November 2, 2019
This has been used by Team Caveman Tactics that have put it thru a lot. Drops, mud, muk, grease etc... we almost always rum Aims yet why spend that $ if its not necessary. With the Nikon SD RDS you get Quality, Durability, Reliability & save a ton of $.
We hunt with Nikon scopes, use Nikon Cams so we decided to try this & 5 of us are unexpectedly Thrilled with the product! Highly recommend this even for Home Defense. 1 con you can fix is the stock mount. That's it.

Nikon P-Tactical Super Dot

by pitplinker0, from FL, United States Written on October 11, 2019
Excellent value! Only improvement I can suggest is quick detachable mount... otherwise excellent. Clarity, robust and very easy to use. I'm entirely happy with the sight and expect to purchase other Nikon products to go with the several I already use.

Initially impressed now not sure

by Sparty, from MI, United States Written on October 5, 2019
Initially I was impressed with this optic. It was clear and bright, easy to mount and operate. It zeroed quickly at 25 yards and then I moved to the 100 yard range where using ballistics, impact should have been very close to bullseye. First shot was acceptable right so a minor adjustment was made, I thought! Next shots were 4-5” high left and not consistent. I tried to adjust back right and was completely off paper. Mount was solid and tight. Back to 25 yard range and start over. Not sure what happened but adjustments do not seem good. Not sure if it’s just this unit and needs replacement or the model overall.
Pros:
  • Ease of installation
Cons:
  • Inconsistent adjustments and zero hold

NOT so Super Dot

by Juan, Verified Owner from AZ, United States Written on September 27, 2019
This RDS is too heavy, the battery compartment cover is excessively large, and WORST of all, the picatinny adapter that was pre-installed on the unit is loose when fully tightened on an AR-15 A3 Upper Receiver and a
Midwest Industries AK Railed Scope Mount 6.75in. Rail MI-AK-SM (from Optics Planet). I emailed Nikon about this issue and their response was “Thank you for contacting Nikon. I would recommend consulting
with a gunsmith as you are working with Nikon mounts on a third party Rail system.”

Well plenty of companies make RDS’s and mounts that fit a “third party Rail system”, but Nikon seems to fall short here. Note: the “Aimpoint” style mounts in the box DO fit the above mentions rails – so there is that. Unfortunately, this RDS does not have attachment screw holes that match the true “Aimpoint” pattern so other risers can be used.
Pros:
  • Price
Cons:
  • BAD picatinny adapter
  • poor Nikon Customer Service
Best Used for:
  • range work

Nikon P- tactical Super dot

by Wild Bill, from NC, United States Written on August 15, 2019
Really like this sight... made very strong, great optical glass and the red dot settings are enough for any sight!! Very bright even on the lowest settings...Only problem that I found was when adjusted to some of the higher settings the red dot started to become distorted, but again it doesn’t need to be set on the higher levels to start with.
Pros:
  • Sturdy
  • very bright
  • great quailty
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunt, target, defense
