Fixed MAJOR accuracy problem in a half hour with this.
I built an AR15 for my daughter with a focus on accuracy out to 500 yards, but when we went out to test it was shooting 5" vertically strung groups at 50. Not that good. Pulled the upper apart and the face of the reciever was all kinds of not square. Took about 5 minutes of lapping to get it squared...

Unsuitable tool for precision work
This tool is not square. It needs own "lapping" first. Steel material is rather soft and I doubt it can be used even a few times IF it is properly machined. Spend a little more and buy something else.
Great tool easy to use
Great tool very easy to use on any AR project that you’re trying to put together

It works fine with a little work
Mine was pretty dinged up on the polishing surface. Definitely not ready to go. I took a 3/4”wide fine metal file and cleaned up the worst bits then I put it in a drill and held the file flat against the engagement surface until it was all the same plane. Don’t worry about the center post when you file it. It doesn’t matter to the final goal. Once I did all that it was good to go and did three receivers really nicely. All in all an easy fix for an affordable tool.

Must have for builders
I think every builder should have this tool. Just be careful with the 220 grit compound with a drill. I did my upper by hand with good results.

Well made tool
For serious builders this is a must have tool. Easy to use, but with the 220 compound it comes with. I wouldn’t use a drill do it by hand.

Arrived unusuable
Product arrived with the machined surface which interfaces with the barrel extension extremely chipped and gouged. This was not due to shipping, but left the factory in this way. Extremely poor QC!
Pros:

Cons:
- Poor QC

It did the job
I bought the tool because I wanted my build to be as accurate as I could make it. I don't much like that spring extension that has to be used to turn the tool with a drill. I have seen these tools with a straight solid stud to attach a chuck to. Would prefer this tool had it. However , I was able to lap the face of the upper to my satisfaction.
Pros:
- None
Cons:
- the spring extension should be a solid stud

Good tool to have
Simple and easy to use tool for those that take alittle more pride in their AR’s. Is it a necessity? Not really as you’ll never notice the difference especially if your rifle doesn’t see past 100yrds. Biggest thing is this will not work with thermal fit uppers. I’ve tried using in VLTOR and BCM uppers but the fit is way to tight to rotate plus they are pretty square from the start.
Pros:
- easy to use
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- Precision builds

exactly what it’s supposed to be
This tool works exactly how it’s supposed to, building a better quality upper while saving time and frustration. I’ve done a few uppers so far, one so bad it was unusable, one spot on perfect, and another just a hair off made perfect. It’s critically important that you keep any grinding compound or dirt out of the inside and oil the shaft. Each time you pull out to check only go just far enough to re-smear the compound. If you pull too far, clean everything out and restart. I have more pro tips, but have to save those for a video. This is a tool I’ll use on every one of my builds.

Lapping tool
Like this product very much. Set everything up, vertical in vise.Took my time and spun the tool by hand, not much pressure needed. Be careful not to apply side pressure. Worked it a few minutes at a time durring a basketball game, at commercial breaks. Was done when I had a smooth silver ring about 90 percent around, that was by half time of my game.

works okay
Machining on tool is okay not the best. You can only use this tool a few times before the lapping face becomes too deformed to work properly.
There were already grooves on the tool surface that is supposed to lap your upper and as you use the tool the grooves become much bigger. The tool lapped my upper but left grooves on the mating surface. If you have access to a lathe you could clean the tool up before using it or mount your upper directly to the lathe to make a nice clean surface. Overall can't really say if I would or not recommend this tool. I have seen other types of this tool made out of stainless that would probably have longer use life if you plan on lapping several uppers.
