Most Helpful Negative Review Just received...first impressions
Looks capable at first glance. Adjustment knobs for side parallax focus and IR are rather stiff. Not as much as others and not as smooth as others. The Azimuth Elevation adjustment knobs are not difficult. The reset to zero MOA means ranks near p1$$ poor engineering. Be careful at the range whe...

Great Quality Rifle Scope

by Rex Whittington, Verified Owner from AR, United States Written on September 4, 2025
The lens quality is similar to the Vortex Diamondback. I put it on a Ruger Carbon lite X22 10/22. It will be used for hunting, target shooting, and plinking. The parallax knob is ridiculously stiff and hard to adjust. I have to remove the rifle from my shoulder to adjust the parallax. I have only used it once, so it might get looser with use. With a magnification at 3, I am able to shoot down to 10 yards with a crisp, clear site picture.

Great for use on 22 and 22 Magnum

by SteveRP, Verified Owner from AR, United States Written on September 4, 2025
This is my second 3-12. and I also have an Athlon 6-24 on my ARA rifle. They are very clear and easily focused for 50-100 yard use. The 3-12 reticle is good in lower light conditions. Good budget or entry level scope.
Pros:
  • quick focus
  • Clear glass & Reticle
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • I use mine for small game hunting

Athlon Talos 3x12x40 review

by Chopper, Verified Owner from AL, United States Written on April 13, 2025
Compared to the scope I replaced a 4x12x42 Vortex Crossfire II, this Athlon Talos 3x12x40 center-X reticle scope is far superior. The glass is much clearer, brighter and sharper at all magnification levels. Everything on this new scope works pretty much ok, mounted it on my Ruger American in 6.5 Grendel and sighted it in easily at 100 yards with 4 shots. I continued to shoot several good groups (sub moa) after sight in with no shifting to initial zero. The only thing stopping me from giving it a 5-star rating is the vertical adjustment, 1 click is far greater than 1/4 moa more like 1/2 moa, but knowing this now I can live with it and is not a problem for me.

Side focus sticks

by Troy B, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on May 26, 2022
I was told by AOA that athlon is very good for high powered spring air guns and I have had no problem with the Talos on my new HW95 with a smooth macari tune kit, my only issue is the side focus knob sticks, if I tighten the caps to recommend specs, it will stop completely at half way point of focus, otherwise I'd gave 4 stars.i think vortex scopes let more light in
Pros:
  • Compact, light weight
Cons:
  • Thin walls but expected cause cheaper

Good Value

by Shane P., Verified Owner from IA, United States Written on March 14, 2022
This scope has a lot of great features for being under $200. Glass is good, similar to Vortex Crossfire II series. Lighted reticle is nice and crisp. Not too over the top. I Argos Gen 2 and the quality is similar to what you would expect from Athlon.
Pros:
  • value
Cons:
  • None

Impressive for the price

by Weekendshooter, Verified Owner from PA, United States Written on April 11, 2021
I am very impressed with the quality of this scope for the price. Side focus as others have said is a little stiff but very manageable. A separate focus on the eyepiece for the recticle. The height and windage knobs adjust easily without a tool. The distance between the bells and adjustment turrets seems different which required me to replace my original mounts with a rail to get the rings in the right position.
Pros:
  • very clear veiw
Cons:
  • None

Athlon scope for my AR

by Talos, from TX, United States Written on October 25, 2020
This scope arrived very fast. The packaging is great. Scope was easy to mount and was easy to sight in. Was very close to being on once mounted. Easy adjustments and comes back to zero without any issues.

by Tom Simmons, Verified Owner from KY, United States Written on October 16, 2020
It a good looking scope but the only problem is the magnification is very hard to turn and so is the side focus i haven't hat time to sight it in but overall appearance is good the glass seams very clear but dose have a slight fisheye effect on the edges
Pros:
  • Looks great and fits fine
Cons:
  • The control knobs are very stiff and hard to use in a hunting situation

BUTT UGLY ! NOT

by Flaco, from AZ, United States Written on February 12, 2020
Bought this scope for a budget 10/22 build. It's a Wally exclusive s/s that had two bulges in the barrel. Receiver is gray painted with a plastic trigger, w/ a Brimstone trigger job. Put a $100 bull barrel on it and a $20 yard sale black Hogue over mould stock. As a shooting companion said, it's really accurate-but it's UGLY. I wasn't trying to make a fashion statement. Initial impression of the scope was good. Packaging was very good, O/P did their usual air pillow treatment to boot. Didn't come with flip-caps or rings, they're usually junky anyway. It has an overall appearance of quality. I like the large ocular, but it does add little bulk to overall size of the scope. Fast focus is smooth with enough resistance to discourage accidental movement. Same for the side focus. Large knobs on turrets & SF are easy to turn, even with gloves. I had a minor issue mounting it. Using low rings on a one piece 10/22 base, the nitrogen port hit the base. Wouldn't be a problem with medium or taller rings. I had a pair of two piece bases that solved it. Eye relief and ocular focus are good. I prefer hash marks over mildots, but the reticle is better than expected for the price level. At the range, sighting in was no problem. Holds zero thru power changes better than most. Normally I test tracking at 100yds. Because of time and space constraints and intended use I tested at 50yds. IMHO you can't check tracking without shooting targets- contrary to a lot of videos and reviews I see. Tracks b...
