Most Helpful Positive Review Best in its class
I've used a great many mid-level optics (as well as some high-cost optics) over the last 3-4 years of so and this has been my favorite. It's not perfect, but it does enough of what I need it to do be a "go-to" optic for everything from 3-gun to home defense. My biggest complaints are: 1) If yo...

Most Helpful Negative Review cmr4 do not buy poor customer service
Car 4 does not cover particles in scope under warranty , witch is crazy for a $400+ scope. And mine was full of particles witch basically made the scope useless do not buy this p.o.s.to be clear it looked good when I got it but after a few trips to the range I started noticing particles in the scop...

Good deal for the money. But not great.

by The Machinist, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on June 5, 2016
I've had my CMR for about a year and have enjoyed shooting it. During my last trip to the range some particles came off the scope tube and got stuck in the reticle. Hi-Lux doesn't cover this repair in their warranty. :( Overall it's a good deal for a scope but I'm not happy about having free floating debris in the reticle image.
Pros:
  • Good reticle, very accurate.
Cons:
  • Particulate in scope reticle.
Best Used for:
  • Plinking.

Three Gun Contender & Darn Good Long Range Targeting over 600 Meter Shooter..

by Leatherwood Lover, from TN, United States Written on December 7, 2015
This review is on the Hi-Lux 1-4x 30mm close corter & mid range Scope.
In CMR-4 Ranging scope for 556 rifles. Also two of the CMR-762 models.
I can understand your frustration with the Black Specks on one or more of the inside glass lenses.
I had the same issue with the CMR-$ & the CMR-762 that I bought a month apart.
When I got the same issue I called Optics Planet FAST.
They were not able to help me due to the fact that they both scopes had been Mounted & Used.
I was told that Leather Wood should cover that problem..
AND THEY DID.
After a few weeks I called & found that they were already on the way.
To top that Mr Woo. The Owner he claimed to be, called me a week after I got both new scopes to ask if there were any issues at all with either the 556 or 762 cal drop comp scopes?
NO SIR I said.
And ao make up for the four week wait on the new scopes he sent me a new top half of the M-1200 com scope that was sitting around as a gift. It still works as a general scope so great I said. The lower half had been damaged.
For anyone wanting one of the best scopes. Hands Down in the price range this is for you.
The reticle is to die for. Very crisp lineswith all the bells. Super glass & Eye relieve.
Night Vision illum settings. Off between 5 & 6 position.
Best is the Turret ZERO STOP feature.. The turrets only turn one turn for top. Only UP. The side turret only half way left or right. And after zero is found the turrets an be quickly set back to "0
They sell other...

Hi Lux CMR 4

by CS, from TX, United States Written on December 3, 2015
This is my third Hi Lux CMR rifle scope. The first two were the original CMR models which have endured years of service on AR rifles. I was originally drawn to them by the reticle design but soon discovered the optical clarity and tracking of this optic were hi quality. In comparison with other optics, even higher priced optics, the CMR was much better. The transition to the CMR4 came after buying a 1x4 optic from a different manufacturer that was more expensive yet left me disappointed. I finally stopped trying to reinvent the wheel and stuck with something I knew would work. This CMR4 optic is clear, bright and the adjustments are smooth. I really like the windage turret located on the left side as I often shoot from a rest. The clicks adjustments are positive and the turret covers are a bonus when transporting my rifle. I have this optic in an American Defense quick release mount so I can transfer it to another rifle for load testing. Then simply return it to the original rifle and the zero stop insures I'm still sighted in. The reticle differs from the original in that it uses mil lines in addition to the BDC. The illumination also includes the BDC stadia unlike the original that just illuminated the circle segment and center dot. The only improvement I would make would be to eliminate the BDC and just use mils. Let's face it, most situations where a rifle might be used don't conform to a standard set of conditions. When I need a 1x4 optic in the future, regardless of ...

Great for tight groups at range with only 4X

by Drew, from AR, United States Written on November 3, 2015
Scanned around for an alternative to the Burris TAC30 that my cousin bought. Ended up with this. Can't say I made a bad choice. Glass is good, not as good as the Burris, but good regardless. Reticle is just sick. The tiny center dot makes long range precision an option with only a 4X scope. The illumination is busy and neat if you're into that (I am), and works well at night with a light. Have this on Sig M400 on a Burris PEPR mount. Its a heavy combo and makes a black rifle a lot more cumbersome, but thats the tradeoff for sticking a scope on an AR. Holds zero, very accurate. Had not shot it in a few months. Pulled it out this weekend and shot a 5 shot half inch group at 70yds. Pretty nice for 4X magnification on an AR-15. Its pricey, but so is everything else that is cool. If you don't mind dropping the cash, go for it. Its not a big name and doesn't have a ton of reviews, so my review is out here to try and let folks know that this scope isn't a $400+ gamble.
Pros:
  • good glass
  • Fine reticle
  • wicked busy illuminted reticle
Cons:
  • pricey, but you get what you pay for
Best Used for:
  • having fun and owning somethign cooler than your friends

Quality scope

by Rider, from PA, United States Written on February 20, 2015
I got the scope very quickly from OP and it great shape. the glass is very clear and looks well made. the reticle's lines are very fine, too fine I am not sure of at this point, but I do like the design of the reticle. I think will allow for quick sighting, but give flexibility for some ranging too. The illumination works well and very happy I purchased the scope. This might very well be a 5* scope, just want to take the scope out to the range and see what it looks like. I would compare this to Vortex PST favorably. I would buy this scope again
Pros:
  • Clarity
  • well made
  • eye relief
  • reticle
Cons:
  • None

Decent value

by Orlando, Verified Owner from AL, United States Written on October 23, 2014
I returned this scope because I realized I need to spend more money for the features I want. Since I never mounted the scope I will just talk about the basics. Also, the only scope I own is a Leupold 4-12 so I don't have much experience with a variety of optics. Starting with the finish on this scope, it's rather poor, when it arrived it looked worn as if the coating wasn't going to last very long. It seems like the finish was compromised so you could get great optics at a decent price. The glass is pretty decent compared to my +$1000 Leupold but there are still some significant flaws. I don't know if the scope is truly 1x or if the fish eye type distortion makes it seem less like 1x but I couldn't really get the scope to function as a true red dot (both eyes open operation). I have an eotech and at 1x this did not operate like an eotech, although to be fair, even $1000 1-4x scopes have trouble operating like a red dot (or so I've read). The clarity of the image was good and the reticle is clean and crisp both illuminated and non-illuminated. The 3" eye relief and small exit pupil were the last straw for me. There is a lot of blinking if you are not lined up perfectly which is fine if you're shooting from a bench. Ultimately I was looking for a 1-4x that I could use as a red dot in mobile shooting scenarios so I had to return this product. I don't have many rifles so when I buy a scope I need it too accomplish a lot. As I said before I didn't mount or use this scope so I neve...

leatherwood hi-lux cmr4

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on January 20, 2014
i really like the reticle its informative with cqb on the bigger circle and 1moa dot to 100yards plus.. just wish it has day time red dot. but at dusk/night cqb illumination is awesome. the glass is pretty clear compare to others at this price range. hope they make 1-8power with 1moa dot and horse shoe illuminated only at day/night time.
Pros: clear glass, sleek, value for the money, awesome reticle
Cons: a bit heavy. no red dot. too tight dial on light rheostat.
