Most Helpful Positive Review Pachmayr Diamond Pro Series Grips
If your a S & W (round butt) nut like me, simply remove your existing grips and tap out the bottom grip handle cross pin with a punch, slide these Diamond Pro's all the way up the grip handle until their fully seated and screw the (included) grip screw through to the opposite grip until snug, and yo...

Most Helpful Negative Review Diamond Pro Grips for Smith & Wesson - Current Production
I have used several pair of these grips in the past, and they are a favorite of mine. Normally, I would rate them as 5 star. That said, this is not the time to buy them, at least for a Smith & Wesson. Pachmayr apparently made a run of grips that both the ones for the N frame and the K/L frame guns ...

Best at sucking up recoil in any revolver.

by WeeHooker, from MA, United States Written on February 26, 2022
I've owned and shot dozens of revolvers in my time. What I've found is that hard material grips ( wood, G10, stag, plastic, etc)look and fit best but give the most felt recoil out of any given gun. Next up are the rubber offerings like the Hogue Monogrip and traditional Pachmayr Gripper/Presentation. These grips fit good and absorb recoil better ( but just don't look as exotic materials). How much recoil is absorbed by each really depends on overall size and (particularly) if they cover the backstrap of the revolver. Enter these new Diamond Pro series grips. These look more finished than the old style Pachmayrs ( and on par with Hogue Monogrip) and are made from a softer/gummier compound which completely covers the grip with extra material. They also tend to be a bit fatter in girth /hand filling. Fit on these is good but not precise ( largely due to the flexibility that is built in. ) there can be slight gaps around the top edge. Bottom line is that when I want a revolver to have the absolute minimum recoil, I now go with these diamond pro. I have 6 sets now for a variety of SW and Ruger revolvers.
Pros:
  • Price
  • REALLY absorbes recoil
Cons:
  • Fit isn't perfect on all models
  • Boring basic black rubber
Best Used for:
  • any use where recoil is not desired

Seem slightly small for my N frame

by EKW, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on February 13, 2021
I was able to get them on but it seems like they are a bit too small on my 629 round butt. They don't fully cover the lest side frame opening and there is no way they are going on farther. I didn't buy them for looks anyway and they will work to keep my gun but and pack from beating up the wood grips. If seems they push my middle finger too low. They do absorb a noticable amount of recoil vs wood grips
Pros:
  • absorb recoil
Cons:
  • Too tight of a fit

New grips on my J frame 649

by Stumpy, from CT, United States Written on November 12, 2018
I put these grips on a J frame S&W, great fit and they make a night and day difference when getting a positive master grip. I put these on a 649 J frame and the rubber is softer than the usual hard rubber grips. That helps with reducing felt recoil when shooting.357 loads through a J frame.

Good grip for my .44 mag.

by JEM, from NM, United States Written on October 5, 2017
I ordered this grip for my S&W 629 with 4" barrel. This grip is wider across the back strap and palm swells so it handles the recoil with more comfort and control for me. But this wider, fuller grip will fit better for those with moderate to large hands. (I wear a size Large glove, and it fits me pretty well.)

For the large N frame revolver, this handle would fit better if it were a little longer. I can barely fit all three fingers on the grip. Also my middle finger fits a little too high and close to the trigger guard. With full power loads, my middle finger sometimes gets whacked by the trigger guard. This could be remedied by redesigning the grip to make it a little longer and to make it fit a little lower on the frame.

The grip is fairly attractive and well finished for a rubber grip. The diamond tread design on the side is a little different; but for me, neither the appearance nor the grippiness is any better than the usual checkering pattern.
Pros:
  • good fit and finish
Cons:
  • Not suitable for smaller hands
Best Used for:
  • Heavy recoiling firearms
  • heavy recoiling revolvers

Not that comfortable

by matt, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on September 19, 2017
Really is thick through the bottom of the grip. Took the pressure of the top of my hand but put it on the bottom. Otherwise I liked the material. Also, you have to punch out the pin that runs through the frame to use this grip. A lot of cons, not many pros. Returned it.

Great grip

by Tom, from OH, United States Written on January 15, 2017
I installed these on my 625 45 acp, they work very well. They have a lot of texture on them. With the soft rubber around the back strap I think they would be excellent on harder kicking magnums.
They do have a different feel than the Hogue rubber grips that I replaced them with.

Great Grips!

by Rosscoe67, from NE, United States Written on November 16, 2016
Very pleased with these grips. Replaced the factory laminate grips (which had cracked) on a new 3" M629 round butt N-Frame. The material on the back strap does a wonderful job of protecting the hand from recoil. Best part is these grips do not increase the print size when carrying concealed. Bonus, I had checked around and Optics Planet had the best price for this product. Great value. Good shooting!
Pros:
  • Excellent at reducing felt recoil.
  • Great Price.
Cons:
  • non
Best Used for:
  • concealed carry
  • Heavy recoil

Ron from Idaho

I have two of these grips. One on a S&W 686 and also on a S&W 329PD. This grip seems to take out all recoil to the hand. How it dose it I'm not sure but it works. The grip fills the hand a lot. So if you have small hands it may not be for you. It makes your double action trigger pull reach a bit longer. But it is one of the more comfortable grips I have used. And I have pretty much tried them all and this is what two of my wheel guns are wearing. IF I need a smaller grip in my hand I use the Pachmayr Decelerator. Have this on some other wheel guns. I am a big fan of Pachmayr products and always feel component buying there stuff.

Pachmayr Diamond Pro Grips

by Jeff A, from OH, United States Written on December 9, 2015
Very good revolver grips. These babies really absorb some blow back and uplift and help you stay on target immensely with power shots. I have them on 3" S & W 625's and 624's and 629's, their incredible. One piece slide on made for each frame and one screw through the upper grip into a built in nut, screw is practically invisible. Pictures show them as 2 tone, but their black. I love them.

Pachmayr Diamond Pro Grips

by Jeff, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on June 1, 2015
I've installed 6 sets of these on my revolvers. I've previously reviewed my opinions of the grips on here, I simply love everything about them from the feel to the way the installation screw practically disappears into the soft (and well thought out) rubber flap, only a little over 1/8" of the screw head is visible when it's seated, no need to over tighten, you can't feel the screw or nut. Remove the cross pin from the revolver handle frame and slowly slide the Diamond Pro Grips up the handle channel until it bottoms out and install the screw into the hidden steel nut in the other side and your ready. They have a perfect palm swell (even in the J frame). In pictures they always appear two-tone (black and gray), but their actually all black.
