Most Helpful Positive Review Streamlight TLR-VIR II Weapon Flashlight and IR Laser
I have mounted the Streamlight TLR-VIR II Weapon Flashlight and IR Laser on three different firearms to test its function on different weapons. The added weight does appear to assist with recoil for both 9 mm and 45 caliber. The light has withstood the recoil of 45 well so far with about 100 roun...

Most Helpful Negative Review White light great-IR not at all great
First and foremost, Optics Planet was great about my order! Even as shipping times have gone long because of the pandemic, I still recieved my order in 2 days! I also live in the boonies. The light however did not live up to my expectations for the price. The white light is great. Construction and q...

One of the best NV options for a pistol on the market, especially for the price

by Luke, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on September 18, 2025
Good enough white light, its main performance is going to be IR. Good Illuminator and laser. Its the most common NV option for competition, so its proven and backed with a good warranty from a great manufacturer

Laser is usable. The light is a feet forward Flood.

by Levi, Verified Owner from OR, United States Written on July 9, 2024
It took 3 weeks to get it, but I like it. It is a flood from my feet forward, so definitely not intended for any forward throw just a massive spill. The laser works well though!

Built weak

by Chris, from OK, United States Written on December 25, 2022
The latch used to secure the battery port is not built like the other lights this brand makes, this light is meant for air soft. Broke the first day. I’m sure there’s some reason they didn’t put their brand name all over it
Pros:
  • Looks cool
  • Looks clean
Cons:
  • Built weak
Best Used for:
  • air soft

Good all in one

by J, from VA, United States Written on May 1, 2021
Very pleased with this purchase. Difficult to find IR in so compact a unit as this, and seems to fit in most tlr-specific holsters. The IR laser isn’t super-bright, but gets the job done. The IR light is pretty decent, as well. Considered using this on a carbine, but will likely use on pistol.

I fixed the IR Illuminator problem

by Hoosier-man, Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on April 28, 2021
The first issue I noticed, is that you cannot turn off the IR illuminator when using the laser, this will flood any objects immediately in front of you with IR, and you won't be able to see beyond them. I fixed this by drilling an 1/8 inch hole in a butler creek #04 objective lense cover, and pressing it over the lense. The hole is to be drilled directly over the laser aperture, PLEASE drill this hole while the lense cap is NOT on the optic. Now it's a great all-in-one solution for night shooting. Now for my gripes: you have to unmount this optic with a screwdriver to change the battery, the laser adjustments do not have positive clicks, and you CANNOT interface a TLR1 remoting module. With that said, it has a 12HR run time on IR, and an 8 dollar lense cover can fix your flood problem. Despite my complaints, I really do recommend this optic for the price/features.
Pros:
  • Lightweight
  • compact
  • All-in-one
Cons:
  • You have to unmount to change the battery
  • Can't turn off IR illuminator
  • No way to remote this on a long gun
Best Used for:
  • PDW
  • Budget night vision

Vir ii review

by Preston Sharp, Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on April 8, 2021
This is my second vir ii. Optics planet always ships quick and I like the vip pricing for veterans. The first vir ii would not zero past 15 yds shot 12" low and the battery door was bending stressing enough it would whiten the metal where it was bending trying to unlock it. on my glock 19x the laser ran out of downward adjustment. I sent it back and requested another. The battery door is nice on this one. It still however is shooting low past 15 yds but not as bad from what I have researched it's because the glock rail mold is upward pignosed and is a common thing for the rails on glocks. So the laser projects higher and runs out of downward adjustment which would raise the shots if I could continue downward movement. I decided to keep it and deal with a 15 yd zero. I am having the glock cut for a rmr and I'll use the rmr to shoot accurate at 25 yards which is what I like my pistols zeroed at. The adjustment are not a click type. On zeroing this use your nvg pin hole cover cap and zero it with the laser with your front sight aiming down the sights. The pinhole cover on your nvgs will allow you to see sights.
Pros:
  • Budget ir laser fits my tlr1 holster
Cons:
  • Didn't zero past 15 yds shot low g19. Battery door can be a negative.
Best Used for:
  • Night vision

Works great, only wish they didn't go with different design for tail-cap and mounting screw/bracket.

by SLD, from IA, United States Written on September 7, 2020
I see a lot of people calling the IR illumination too dim or only good for close range, I think this may depend on what type of NVD you have.

I have a SiOnyx Aurora Pro, and it picks up the IR illumination pretty good, 25 yards if not a bit more... Switching modes is very easy as well, the '300 lumen' white light is bright for what it is. The IR laser itself shines bright well past 100 yards. So for most people wanting something that will work with NVDs to see/shoot at ranges out to maybe 100 yards or even a bit further, this will work great... Unless perhaps your NVD doesn't pick up the illumination as well, I can't speak for everyone in this regard. But the Aurora Pro seems to pick up a wide variety of IR illumination devices quite well...

Cons: The tail cap is not standard TLR, so you have less interchangeability with older/other systems... Also the mounting screw/bracket, is different, they are both smaller. The bolt is a smaller diameter, so don't be like me and buy a larger 'rifle kit' screw for this then find out it's not the right size/threads...

Overall I'm keeping it on one of my short AR pistols, its right at home on it.

Ir lazer and flashlight

by Amark, from ID, United States Written on July 21, 2020
I purchased this for the laser but was amazed at how bright the IR flash light is. On a over cast night in darkness it is bright enough to have my gen 3 pvs 7 actually turn its protection on. I do wish it had a option to just run the laser.
Pros:
  • BRIGHT IR
Cons:
  • IR laser and IR flash light are on at the same time
Best Used for:
  • Night use with night vision
